BackgroundThe GIZ Programme Support to the African Union for the Operationalisation of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) supports the African Union to strengthen instruments of the African Peace and Security Architecture that are aimed at conflict prevention, conflict management and post-conflict reconstruction to end violent conflicts as well as to consolidate peace.
The Junior Project Officer will work under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Project Team Leader.
The Junior Project Officer will be responsible for providing technical and administrative project management support for the implementation of all activities under the project.
He/ she will assist in the documentation of project activities by ensuring effective knowledge management, monitoring and adherence to GIZ rules and regulations.
He/she will also support the project team in the organization of events and the promotion of collaboration between projects.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Junior Programme Officer is responsible for supporting project management tasks, strengthening the project monitoring functions and nurturing collaboration across the sector by providing the necessary support to all project components.
He/she is accountable to the programme team leader (AV).
Responsibilities and tasks
Project Management and coordination tasks
Supports project management and project communication;
Supports the project in its planning and project implementation
Assist the Team Leader in planning, organizing and coordinating of sector activities or other small and large-scale events
Supports the coordination with the Event Service Unit at the GIZ AU office
Knowledge management and monitoring
Supports general knowledge management on DMS and on other virtual project platforms
Coordinates meetings and information exchange between the APSA and IPSS projects as well as updates the event list of the office regularly
Supports monitoring
of project activities, including through Onsite Operations
Other support
Schedules virtual and physical domestic/international meetings with external partners including Ethiopian government, AU,
Embassies, NGOs etc.
Supports content preparation of workshops and conferences, including through rapporteur duties
Supports communication and logistics for partners, participants and project staff in close cooperation with the respective GIZ AU Service Unit
Job Requirements
Requirements
University degree in business administration, management, social sciences or related fields with relevant working experience (internship)
Experience with GIZ processes & regulations, tools & portals required
Practical experience with GIZ knowledge management and project administration essential; experiences in travel/event management or financial management is an advantage
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel and PowerPoint.
Excellent communication skills
Very good English and good level of German language skills, written and oral
High degree of initiative, efficiency, team-working, integrity and accountability.
Stress tolerance, patience and inter-cultural sensitivity
Readiness to upgrade skills and continuous learning
Ability to work according to GIZ rules and regulations, treats information confidentially
