IntroductionThe SCIDA-II Project in the SDR-ASAL Program of GIZ builds capacities in the field of natural resource management and sustainable land management. Part of these activities is to create links between rural production and commercial operators.
This involves the mobilization of rural communities around possible market linkages that evolve out of the project, the formation of producer or supplier groups, their group organization, up to the level of formal registration where possible.
Objective of the assignmentThe Community Mobilization Specialist shall support the project team in mobilizing producer groups and teach them market relevant aspects obtained by the project team and other stakeholders.
The work involves contacting relevant private sector and research institutions to obtain market-relevant information and relay it to the producer groups with the intention to create market links.
It furthermore involves the preparation and administration of GPS databases for the generation of overview maps, and the coordination of work with the woredas in question.
GIZ SDR-ASAL Program in Addis Ababa is interested in hiring a Community Mobilization Specialist, who will work within the project team and together with the woreda personnel on coordinating economic interventions under the project in the above said woredas. For its SDR program activities, GIZ is looking, for a Community Mobilization Specialist as per the detail below:
Position: Community Mobilization Specialist

Responsibilities Working under the supervision of the Project Manager and the field team leader;
Supporting the development of capacities amongst producer groups to become market-ready suppliers;
Assisting to build homogenous data base systems for relevant producers in the respective woredas in line with project concepts and standards;
Contributing to knowledge management pertaining to
the undertaken measures focusing on Capacity Building measures.
Tasks
Support agro-pastoralists and pastoralists in assuming market relevant information so that they can adapt their production processes and systems;
Support the producers in group formation where necessary, so that they can become acceptable suppliers to potential large scale buyers;
Support the project team in data collection, data processing and map generation to visualize geographic information about the production sites, the products, and the supply systems and logistics;
Provide informed input to the Project and the woredas;
Other relevant activities as may be assigned from time to time.
Travels between Addis Ababa and Afar are required.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications, Competences and Experiences
BSc in Agriculture or Animal Production,
Minimum of 5 year of experience on the filed
Proven experience in community mobilization and group formation in the context of development projects in rural areas in Afar;
Experience with market relevant agricultural production and supply systems in connection with development projects in Afar, especially oil crops and fodder grass
Experience with training pastoralists and agro-pastoralists.
Experience with formation of registered producer groups and forming them into cooperatives is an asset.
Ability to perform efficiently in a multicultural work environment;
Ability to work under time pressure and in a harsh environment;
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English and Amharic;
The ability to read and speak Afarigna is an advantage.
