Role Profile
As the Deputy Country Director – Programme you will enable Light for the World to turn its programme vision in Ethiopia into reality.
You are responsible for coordinating and managing the planning and implementation of programmes in Ethiopia.
You will promote Light for the World’s contribution in the thematic areas Comprehensive Eye Health, Community-Based Rehabilitation, Inclusive Education, Inclusive Development and Rights & Advocacy at national and regional level.
Furthermore, you will engage in networking with other stakeholders in Ethiopia.
Coordinating and managing programme portfolio of 26 projects and programmes in 6 regions is a very important part of this position.
Major Responsibilities
Coordination and steering of programmes planning management and implementation in Ethiopia, ensuring interconnectedness of programme elements and synergies
Ensuring programme implementation quality and systematic monitoring and evaluation
Managing key strategic partnerships with existing partners and identify the capacity of other organizations for possible future collaboration.
Identifying partners’ capacity needs and ensuring that crucial capacity gaps are addressed
Representing Light for the World Ethiopia Country Office in the absence of the Country Director
Leading programme planning including Annual Work Plan process and Country Strategy development
Leading on standard donor reporting on key programmes areas focusing on institutional donors
Line Management of the programme officers (comprehensive eye health and disability and development) in the Ethiopia Country Office (currently 4) including regular feedback processes
Supporting them in the fulfilment of their roles and responsibilities, assessing and addressing their capacity and skills development needs
Ensuring necessary support is provided by the CO team to programme development and fundraising on international as well as engaging in national-level programme development and fundraising initiatives;
Ensure implementing partners have got the necessary support from Light for the World program and management team as well as support program team to develop and implement a sound monitoring and supportive supervision plans;
Monitoring visit to project sites, along with program team, will be one of your tasks
Monitor Light for the World’s Annual Work Plan, for comprehensive eye health and disability and development, on a quarterly basis and ensure planned activities and budget are on track and suggest the necessary adjustments in case of variances;
Maintain efficient international collaboration between country office and international team by ensuring internal process documentations are
properly followed;
Serve as a bridge between program team and the leadership effort by ensuring overall organizational activities are interlinked and one feed in to the other;
Job Requirements
Your profile:
You preferably have a master’s degree in development management or related fields.
You can refer to at least seven years of relevant management and technical experience including the management of major grants;
Sound knowledge and experience in the field of disability and development is extremely important.
Experience on eye health or health program design and implementation will be an asset
Your high sense of responsibility, your hands-on mentality as well as your structured and independent working style help you achieve your objectives.
You count on demonstrated experience of successful programme management, including complex, high-value, multi-activity projects, with complex logistics.
Your participatory leadership style motivates the team and drives them to excellent performance.
Your proven experience in team building, coaching and working in a multi-cultural setting will foster motivation and team spirit in our Ethiopian programme team.
You bring along project/programme planning and management skills as well as experiences in financial/grant and human resource management.
You have demonstrated your ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local government, donors, community-based organizations, and the private sector.
You know your strengths and areas of improvement and are committed to personal development.
You have very good written and oral communication skills in English.
You are proficient in using software applications and tools such as MS Office, web conferencing applications, and information and budget management systems.
You have a high commitment to Light For The World’s mandate and values, working towards the inclusion of persons with disabilities and you have a personal interest in international development and human rights.
