    Job Description

    Main Purpose of Job

  • Maintains the general ledger structure, records financial transactions into the firm’s general ledger and subsidiary ledgers and pulls reports
  • Implements changes as and when required by Global ITF Finance and responds to matters arising from global reporting

    Differentiators for this specific role

    General Ledger Accountants will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the Country/ Service Line general ledger including, but not limited to:

    Quality Control – ITF:

  • Performs ongoing quality control of general ledger transactions to ensure all expenses in the P&L are recorded against the correct WBS code – per ITF requirements
  • Manage, in cooperation with the AM – the opening of new WBS codes as/when required
  • Analyse timesheet processing of staff across RoA to assist with costing of products & services
  • Maintains ITF cost centre structure / opening of new cost centres as/when required
  • Ad hoc requests from Global ITF

    Processing of Journals - serves as back-up for regional finance BP’s:

  • Posts to and updates the General Ledger (GL)
  • Processes journals at month end and at request of the Business Partner
  • Adjusts and releases accruals & provisions accordingly
  • Monitors FAR depreciation postings and processes manual adjustments as/when required
  • Assesses impact of proposed general ledger change

    Fixed Asset Accounting - serves as back-up for regional finance BP’s:

  • Sound knowledge of in-country fixed assets procedures
  • Reviews procurement invoices
  • Reviews any updates made to the FAR with the asset details and asset classes
  • Investigates discrepancies between the FAR and the GL
  • Pulls FAR reports from SAP
  • Identifies assets to be written off and writes off assets accordingly
  • Recognises proceeds from the sale of assets
  • Accounts for depreciation and capitalisation of fixed assets
  • Verifies ATS FAR

    Month-end Close and Consolidate, Budgets & Forecast:

  • Ensures service lines expenses are correctly accounted for and recovered from business in line with the firm’s official cost allocation methodology (direct charges)
  • Ensures monthly charges from SA are accrued for via the relevant inter-co accounts and templates are completed per Inter-company policy
  • Ensures DTTL mandated fees are accrued and paid for in line with budget and are recovered from business per ITF guidelines

    Staff & Intercompany Debtors, Expense claims:

  • Conducts staff debtor’s allocations and deductions
  • Ensures intercompany debtors & creditors transactions are in line with policy
  • Ensures staff expense claims reflect in the correct GL accounts

    Other:

  • Creates reporting templates and ad hoc reports and maintains standard reporting repository
  • Assists in preparation of supporting documentation for internal audits
  • Drafts general ledger communications
  • Manages closing timeline and calendar
  • Assists with period and year-end close activities
  • Performs closing adjustments and process allocations
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department
  • Available outside of normal business hours for occasional support needs
  • Performs first-level cost analysis and provides feedback to the Service Line Business Partner/s on the results

    Governance:

  • Communicates and updates the General Accounting
    Specialist on Country/ Regional General Accounting movements
  • Attends Africa-wide: General Accounting team meetings and training
  • Complies with standardised processes and controls

  • With minimal supervision, completes designated tasks for review by line, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Provides line manager and team with detailed reporting on status of deliverables on a regular basis
  • Remains aware of risk in area of expertise in alignment with Deloitte policies and processes
  • Checks work for accuracy and professional presentation prior to submission for review

    Development/Growth of Team

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Qualifications: Degree (Finance / Accounting)
  • Minimum Experience: 4 years in finance
  • Desired Qualifications: Postgraduate qualification in Finance / Accounting
    Desired Experience: 5 years in finance
