IntroductionThe Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants.
The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009. With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.
Overall Purpose of the Role:
The Protection Assistants will be responsible for the day to day implementation of Access to Justice and education activities designed to be implemented in Hitsats, Mai Ayni and Adi Haroush Refugee Camps and hosting communities under the Regional Protection and Development Program, funded by the EU.
The role will include contributions to needs/program assessments, supporting the preparation of program reports (information collection, community consultations etc.), community mobilization and organization, identifying and communicating community concerns in his/her locations, supporting Officers in facilitating community discussions, training and events, and in collecting and managing project data ensuring the highest standards of data and information protection and confidentiality.
Responsibilities and TasksTechnical Support:
Ensure the organization and the implementation of all protection and education activities at field level in accordance with the agreed workplan under the supervision of the relevant program staff
activities for relevant duty-bearers and other stakeholders, such as members of judiciary or law enforcement, who provide services for host communities and refugees.
Support the Protection Officer in conducting and facilitating awareness-raising campaigns on facilitating gender-friendly access to justice and migration options and risks for Eritrean refugees and their respective host communities;
Assist Education Staff in conducting assessments, community mobilization, organizing classes and tutorials in collaboration with local schools, preparing distributions and other activities as needed.
Regularly follow up to ensure all services and action points are carried out within agreed time frames.
Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at camp and local authority levels, including participation in relevant meetings and other coordination fora;
Regularly work with and supervise incentive workers in day to day implementation,
Identify individual cases through regular presence in the community and accept referrals from other agencies and community
Provide input for weekly and monthly reports, monitoring checklists and other reports when requested;
Perform any other activities assigned by supervisors.

Job Requirements
Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
Minimum 1 year of experience in the field of humanitarian response and refugee/IDP protection working for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or authority.
Ability and willingness to maintain regular presence and build positive relationships with communities in remote project sites.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills – positive, self-motivated individuals, able to take initiative and propose solutions.
Education:
Bachelor degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
Language:
Excellent English language skills both spoken and written. Tigrigna language skills, an advantage.
