Danish Refugee Council (DRC) GBV Officer Careers in Ethiopia
Responsibilities Design, plan and implement GBV prevention & response activities in target IDP sites in Somali region;
Ensure community members are mobilized to participate in anti-GBV activities in the sites
Plan, attend & facilitate monthly meetings with community leaders, support groups and other stakeholders
Develop interventions including awareness raising, trainings, and support to community based protection structures to strengthen GBV prevention and response based on data.
Ensure all planned training sessions take place as per the objectives
Organize, attend or facilitate workshops and training sessions for community members, change agents, support groups and agency workers.
Promote a positive profile of the GBV program among other sectors, partners and the target communities
Develop and maintain positive and professional working relationship with other agencies
2. Project Monitoring & Evaluation
Monitor trends and needs related to GBV in the target IDP sites and recommend activities improving DRC’s and other agencies’ prevention and response to instances of sexual and gender based violence
Contribute to the development of project proposal, concept notes & sector publications
Regularly monitor project activities and provide feedback for adjustment as needed.
With the support of other staff compile, analyse and share monthly data (disaggregated age/gender/ vulnerability) to inform programming.
Assisting in mid-term or end
of project evaluations.
Ensure DRC’s accountability commitments are streamlined in all GBV activities.
Ensure proper documentation of all project activities including case studies & human interest stories
Specification
University degree in gender studies, social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
Minimum 2 years of experience in an entry to mid level position, with experience in the field of humanitarian response and refugee/IDP protection working for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or local authority.
Technical understanding of GBV root causes, prevention and response strategies, including experience with operationalizing GBV principles and international standards in a humanitarian aid setting;
Proven record of providing trainings and workshops on gender and GBV topics;
Hands-on experience with GBV protection case management is mandatory. Previous experience support community based protection structures is a strong advantage.
Experience working with displaced and/or conflict affected populations, such as refugees or IDP.
Strong planning, organization and problem solving skills with ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding work environment.
Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
Experience of working in an emergency setting.
