Danish Refugee Council Consultant- Child Protection Specialist Vacancies in Ethiopia
Introduction The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997.
DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants.
The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009. With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.
Key Responsibilities Scope of consultancy The consultant will assess the psycho-social needs, indoor activities, implement recommendations and build the capacity of the CFS supervisors social workers.
Furthermore the consultant will support the data collection, analysis and report compilation for the Child Protection Study.
Key tasks
A.Strengthening Child Development through CFS activities
Assess current activities
and activity plan for indoor activities and overall CFS activities in line with international standards for Child Friendly Spaces.
Conduct a needs assessment of psychosocial activities and other child development activities
Make recommendations for psychosocial activities including activities for fostering child development, stimulation and socialization
Assess capacity and needs of social workers and staff and develop appropriate training
In coordination with DRC staff and social workers develop action plan, including developing activities and introducing new approaches
Expected profile of the Consultant
The consultant must have
Higher education in Child development, Early Childhood education, or psychology
Experience working with child development and in managing child care facilities
Experience developing child development and psychosocial activities for children.
Experience with capacity building and training
Prior experience with Child Protection Programming
Experience with research reporting and documentation
Good facilitation and writing skills
Professional License to do this task
Proficiency in Amharic and English
