If yes, then you might be one of our new Danish Red Cross intern in Africa.
Danish Red Cross is right now looking for an intern for our office in Ethiopia; 50% at the country office and 50% at the regional office.

A unique opportunity to learn and communicate about Danish Red Cross’ work in Africa
The Danish Red Cross Regional Office for Africa is placed in Addis Ababa. From here we provide strategic and management guidance to our country offices throughout the continent; Sudan, South Sudan, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
Our operations focus on emergency response, preparedness, resilience building, health, youth, psychosocial support and migration. The position will have a broad geographical focus and the intern will be expected to take on missions to other countries.
The position will furthermore support the DRC Ethiopia Country Office (50%), which is integrated with Ethiopian Red Cross Society HQ, where the main operations focus on migration and displacement, as well as emergency response and preparedness.
Your tasks:The intern will support the work at the Regional Office and the Danish Red Cross’ overall response in Africa. This will include:
Prepare communication pieces about DRC’s work in Africa, including regular Facebook updates, quarterly one pagers and news articles etc.
Support with internal communication to DRC staff in the region and at HQ
Support in developing and maintaining and communicating about regional coordination mechanisms, e.g. holiday plans.
Assist in preparing quarterly regional portfolio overviews
Support organization of regional meetings
Support day to day activities at Regional Office
Assist with the file handling
For the Country Office the intern will specifically support with:
Conducting field visits to project sites for monitoring project developments
Support delegates in providing timely and quality reports according to plan
Prepare and develop communication content for the Country Portfolio
Assist and support the DRC Country Office in day-to-day admin tasks
You will learn about the
work of Danish Red Cross in Ethiopia and the African region as whole and receive ongoing supervision and support by the Head of Region and regional staff.
We expect
We expect that you work independently, are action driven and provide an effective service delivery.
You are well structured and resourceful, interested in humanitarian work and want to be part of the Red Cross.
We also expect you to have an interest in working closely with local actors, and that you have the skills to engage in different project activities.
We imagine that you through your study have knowledge of international humanitarian work and/or insight into partnership projects.
The professional and academic background needed for the position is:
Excellent report writing and communication skills to be disseminated in a professional, but not academic language.
Documented experience from working with organizational development involving volunteers as well as programme design and monitoring.
Cultural sensitivity and experience in participatory methods and planning of fieldwork.
Knowledge of the Red Cross Movement is an advantage.
It is required to have an internship agreement with the university in place prior to the start of the internship, thus, enrollment in a relevant master programme e.g. social science, political science, African studies, development studies or similar, is a requirement of this position.
As a person, you are result oriented with a cultural sensitivity. You have an ability to both listen and facilitate dialogues with a flexible approach, adapting your way of working depending on the culture and capacities.
Fluency in both Danish and English is a must

You will learn about Red Cross’ work in East Africa and receive ongoing supervision and support by the experienced Disaster Management professionals.
You will get to work alongside professionals who are experts in their field and gain valuable and relevant work experience within a dynamic workplace.
At the same time, an internship with the Danish Red Cross in the Africa region will provide you with an opportunity to apply what you have learned during your academic programme in a challenging, yet inspiring setting.
How to Apply:
The internships begin in February 2020 and ends in June/July 2020 and runs for about 6 months. The weekly hours are 37.
The internship is unpaid, however accommodation, vaccinations and insurance are covered by the Danish Red Cross. Before arriving at the internship, a thorough training by the Danish Red Cross will be undertaking in Denmark and online.
