Safer communities advisor DanChurchAid is implementing Mine Action / Safer Communities projects in South Sudan and is looking for a Safer Communities Adviser (SCA) to support the implementation, development and expansion of activities.
The position forms part of DCA’s HMA team, but also acts as a technical advisor to the Humanitarian Assistance & Resilience Program - HARP (25%).
DCA aims at expanding activities in South Sudan under the Safer Communities umbrella to include Safer Communities Action Planning, conflict sensitive development projects, Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) and other insecurity/conflict mitigating activities.
The position refers to the DCA HMA Programme Manager (PM) and coordinates with the Program Manager for HARP in relation to the “Addressing Root Causes” project.
The SCA plays a key role in achieving programme objectives and maximise synergies for the South Sudan Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) programme as well as the implementation of other DCA interventions in South Sudan, particularly the ‘Addressing Root Causes’ project.
Under this project, the SCA acts as a technical advisor with focus on community safety planning, capacity building and quality assurance.
The SCA will be responsible for drafting of relevant proposals and donor reports and actively support the PM in fundraising and grants management. In addition, the SCA should support development of M&E systems for DCAs activities under Safer Communities.
Your main responsibilities will be:Technical lead on the development, implementation and expansion of Safer Communities activities under HMA and the “Addressing Root Causes” project.
Advisory lead on Safer Communities, AVR and conflict sensitive programming, including provision of support to best practice Risk Education (RE).
Technical lead on the design and implementation of the Broadcast Risk Awareness component in collaboration with BBC Media Action and relevant partners and stakeholders.
Support
programme planning and implementation, including the linking of HMA, HARP and Area 1 activities as well as investigating opportunities to collaborate with other organisations (consortiums) and creating synergies
Support development of sound M&E systems and practices.
Support to development of funding and project proposals
You have the following qualifications:
Postgraduate diploma in International Development and (or) relevant Master’s level degree (anthropology, development studies, humanitarian aid, sociology, political sciences or equivalent)
Proven experience in Armed Violence Reduction, Risk Education activities and/or Protection will be a strong advantage
Experience in developing donor proposals and reports
Excellent communication skills in writing and verbal
Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines
Ability to work independently as well as alongside diverse actors including national staff, expatriate staff and HQ.
Experience in carrying out needs assessments an advantage
Proven experience in developing stories of interest for national and international media and for illustrating impact of project activities for donors
