Job DescriptionSummaryThe Regional Program Advisor (RPA), Africa role is for someone who enjoys working at a fast pace and interested to keep up to date with international development trends on thematic areas such as Youth, Sexual Health & Reproductive Rights, Gender Equality, Social & Economic Empowerment and Volunteering as well as bringing MEAL expertise to our Program in Africa.
The role is for someone who can quickly disseminate key learning from current programs and scan the horizon for relevant opportunities to maximize impact.
The Regional Program Advisor (RPA), Africa will be responsible for supporting country program offices (CPO) in Nigeria, Benin, DRC, Cameroon, Tanzania and Ethiopia to maximize the impact of the Volunteers for International Cooperation and Empowerment (VOICE) program.
This position will harness expertise in program planning, development of partnerships, reporting on impact and identifying opportunities to increase the impact of country programs in Africa.
The RPA will report to the Head of Programs, Africa and will work closely with Country Program Offices (CPOs) as well as with key departments at Cuso International Headquarters in Ottawa.
Job Function:Key Responsibilities Advise and provide support to CPOs in Africa with the development and monitoring of impactful programs in Africa, including building CPOs skills and capacities related to program development and monitoring;
Support and provide capacity building to CPOs in Africa to ensure strong understanding of tools, processes and systems that support MEAL to monitor, evaluate and report on program impact;
Provide support on the global program quality processes, under guidance of Head of Programs - Africa and Knowledge Management and Impact Team Lead and Thematic Global Leads;
Contribute to the process of fostering organizational knowledge sharing and learning;
Develop and maintain excellent relationships and networks with existing and potential partners to support program development and contribute to increasing Cuso International’s profile;
Undertake independent research in identifying program development opportunities and resources for long-term sustainability of Cuso International in Africa and suggest innovative approaches and partnerships to maximize impact;
Take the
lead in planning, coordinating, writing and editing relevant program development documents, ensuring a participatory and well-organized process, in coordination with the Head of Programs, Africa, CPOs and key departments at
Headquarters in Ottawa;
Lead relationships with various partners to meet agreed upon objectives.

Benin (Cotonou), Canada (Ottawa), Cameroon (Yaoundé), DRC (Kinshasa), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa), Nigeria (Calabar) or Tanzania (Dar es Salaam)

Bargaining Unit Status:
Included only if selected candidate is based in Canada
Language:
Bilingualism (English & French) is essential
Eligibility:
Local National; must be legally entitled to work in at least one the countries listed above
Job Requirements
Position Qualifications
Essential
University degree in international development or a related field
Minimum five years’ experience in a relevant field
A proven track record of program design for international development
Experience with MEAL systems and frameworks
Experience working with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and other international development agencies
Strong ability to draft and edit program development content for various audiences
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French & Highly organized with great attention to details and good team coordination skills
Self-starter and able to work independently
Ability to work irregular hours occasionally (evenings and weekends)
Willingness to travel when necessary within Africa and abroad
Desirable
Experience with volunteer cooperation
