About the job:
The CSIR has a vacancy for a Researcher: Transport Engineer/Planner for the Transport Management, Design and Systems Research Group, within the Smart Mobility Cluster.
The incumbent will conduct research in transport operations, travel behavioural modelling and designing transport systems for sustainability. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:
Undertake research in transport planning, transport surveys, transport modelling, transport decision support systems, traffic engineering and/or statistical analysis;
Write research proposals, research reports, client reports and peer-reviewed publications;
Prepare reports, guidelines or other documents aimed at
disseminating the results and outcomes of projects.
Contribute to the development of toolkits, simulation/forecast models and technology packages for effective deployment in the transport sector.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in civil, industrial, or transport engineering, a master’s degree or studying towards one will be advantageous;
At least five years’ post-graduate experience in one of the following areas: transport planning, travel surveys, transport modelling, transport decision support systems, traffic engineering and/or statistical analyses;
Registered professional scientist or engineer, or being on a path to register would be an added advantage;
Good understanding of transport and the built environment domains in South Africa;
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills;
Ability to work in a methodical manner is essential;
Ability to present ideas, concepts, plan and procedures;
Demonstrated track record of the ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently.
