County Government of Machakos Legal Counsel Jobs in Kenya

Assembly Service Board of Machakos invites applications from suitably Kenyan citizens to fill the following vacant positions.

  • Legal Counsel

    Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drafting of Bills/ drafting of amendments to Bills to be proposed to the Assembly by any Member of County Assembly or any Committee of County Assembly.
  • Giving legal interpretation of Acts and Bills.
  • Providing legal advice to the County Assembly Committees and staff
  • Preparation of vellums for Bills and ensuring publication of Bills:
  • Litigation management.
  • Preparing legal opinions and briefs.
  • Ensuring that the Assembly complies with the governing laws.
  • Legal awareness creation among members of the County Assembly and members of the public. Conducting public participation on legislation
  • Review of Standing Orders and other House Rules.
  • Carrying on legal research on matters before the Department.
  • Custodian of Assembly papers presented in the house in the course of debate.
  • Such other relevant duties as may be assigned by the County Assembly Service Board.

    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to this grade the applicant must have a minimum of the following

  • Served in the grade of Legal Counsel II, Drafting Services/Litigation or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized institution
  • Be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Be in possession of a current practicing certificate
  • Proficient in computer applications skills

    Shortlisted candidates MUST meet the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya on leadership and integrity and will be required to produce clearance compliance certificate from the following agencies

  • Ethics and Anti-coruption commission
  • Higher Education Loans Board
  • Kenya Revenue Authority
  • Credit Reference Bureau
