County Assembly of Laikipia Legal Officer Jobs in Kenya

Duties and Responsibilities

• Drafting Bills and amendment to the Bills to be proposed to the Assembly by any Member of the Assembly or any committee of the Assembly;

• Drafting other legal documents under the supervision of the Legal Counsel,

• Assisting in giving legal interpretation of Acts and bills and generally giving legal advice
on matters relating to the County Assembly business;

• Assisting in providing legal advice to the County Assembly, Assembly committees, the speaker, the County Assembly Service Board, individual members and the Clerk;

• Assisting in ensuring that the Bills passed by the County Assembly comply with the Constitution; and

• Assist in supervision of legal representation of the County Assembly and the County Assembly Service Board in court proceedings.

• Monitoring hearing dates in Litigation matters of the County Assembly,

• Assist in facilitating service of legal documents,

• Assist in collecting,

• Circulating and filing of published bills and subsidiary legislation;

• Filing of court documents and any other legal documents,

• Providing any other Clerical services that may be required by the County Assembly, the Committees, the Speaker, and the County Assembly of Laikipia or the Clerk.

Requirements for Appointment

• Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Laws from a recognized institution;

• Be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

• Be in possession of a current practicing certificate;

• Have proficiency in use of basic computer applications;

• Possession of Senior Management Course certificate or its equivalent lasting not less that two weeks will be an added advantage.
