Commission on Administrative Justice Legal Officer Jobs in Kenya
Main Responsibilities• Attending to clients on matters relating to administrative justice and offering legal advice there on;
• Representing the Commission in legal proceedings including amicus briefs;
• Assisting the commission in conducting hearings, inquiries and investigations in matters falling within its mandate;
• Conducting legal research on matters relating to administrative justice and other legal matters;
• Promoting and facilitating resolution of complaints and disputes through mediation and reconciliation;
• Preparing periodic reports on complaints investigated and remedial action taken by the Commission;
• Preparing Legal and Advisory opinions;
• Providing recommendations or remedial alternatives for resolution of disputes.
CompetenciesFor appointment to this position, a candidate must have:-
• A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized University
• A current and valid practicing certificate
• Ability to undertake research and provide sound legal opinions
• Atleast 4 years’ of post admission experience
• Knowledge and exposure to Alternative Dispute Resolution will be an added advantage
Clearance/Compliance CertificatesSuccessful candidates will be required to provide copies of clearance or compliance certificates from:
• Kenya Revenue Authority
• Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission
• Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID)
• Law Society of Kenya
• A credit reference bureau
• Higher Education Loans Board
• Advocates Complaints Commission

Commission on Administrative Justice Senior Manager - Legal & Advisory Jobs in KenyaManagerial ResponsibilitiesSupport in the formulation and implementation of policies and strategies for effective discharge of the functions of the directorate in accordance with the strategic goal of the commission
Develop the directorate work plan, procurement plan and quarterly progress reports to ensure that activities are on track and in accordance with the mandate of the commission
Organize and allocate tasks to staff members in the directorate to ensure optimal utilization of the resources in the department
Manage day to day administration and provide supervisory role to the staff in the directorate
Deputize the Director Legal and advisory services and perform delegated roles as need may arise
Operational Responsibilities:
Handle complaints by clients against public agencies or officers on matters that relate to administrative justice
Represent the commission on legal proceedings before courts and tribunals on matters that relate to administrative conduct of public agencies or officers
Prepare on behalf of the commission sound legal and advisory
opinions on complaints that have been wedged against public agencies and officers
Conduct legal research on cases pending before the commission to come up with an opinion to determine the way forward in the pursuit of justice for the complainants
Draft and review contracts for the commission to ensure that the commission’s risk is limited
Implement mechanisms for formal hearings by the commission to facilitate investigations into matters arising from the administrative conduct of public agencies or officers
Draft court documents on complaints that relate to administrative justice to ensure that the complaints are handled efficiently and that justice is achieved
Draft reports on legal matters: special reports, annual and bi-annual reports for review by the Director to determine the performance of the directorate
Participate in the promotion of public awareness of policies and administrative procedures on matters that relate to administrative justice and outreach activities by the commission
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Preferably an MBA or a Master’s degree in social sciences or any relevant area of discipline Bachelor’s Degree in LLB
Post graduate diploma in law
Other required knowledge that would be regularly applied to the job
Knowledge and exposure to Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms
An understanding of the constitution, legal policy and institutional framework in the public sector
Knowledge of professional ethics and standards
Knowledge of relevant legislations
Soft skills that would be regularly applied to the job
Leadership skills
Communication and organisational skills
Negotiation and problem solving skills
Teamwork
Experience
At least 8 years of post-admission experience; and service with exposure in a senior position in a reputable organization
Clearance
Successful candidates will be required to provide copies of clearance or compliance certificates from:

• Law Society of Kenya
