Program / Department Summary

  • CIFA Ethiopia is one of the four partners in a three year program, entitled Developing Inclusive and Profitable Dairy Value Chains for Pastoralist Communities in Borana Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia, led by CST Ethiopia and funded by the Jersy Overseas Aid (JOA). The project utilizes a market Systems Development approach to contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and social stability for vulnerable women in Moyale.

  • It will work to mobilize, catalyze and enable market-based solutions to create jobs and increase income for women and youth.

  • The consortium, led by CST Ethiopia, additionally comprises Fair and Sustainable and Oromia Pastoralist Association (OPA). The project aims to improve market functions, support-service effectiveness and the business environment.

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    This role will:

  • Provide support to the CIFA Ethiopia field team in terms of Market System Development.

  • Identify potential local market actors, participate in intervention designing and work with private sector actors for sustainable business linkage

  • Facilitate and implement activities related to value chain development and market system development

  • Assess the potential of the project area and make feasibility assessments to assist through market linkage and facilitation role

  • Restore livelihoods and improve food security for the project beneficiaries

  • Organize and facilitate training and workshops

  • Conduct technical business and entrepreneurial skills trainings for target beneficiaries

  • Facilitate and coordinate the components of youth workforce development activities

  • Facilitate trainings, provide coaching, organizing and work placement programs for unemployed and underemployed youth

  • Provide entrepreneurship and small business management coaching

  • Create smooth linkage of beneficiaries with MFIs and credit associations

  • Maintain proper documentation of the project implementation process and outcome

  • Supervise, coach and mentor the Market Development Facilitators

  • Ensure effective implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on the project, in line with jointly agreed standards

  • Work in collaboration with MSD coordinator and local market actors to ensure appropriate technical direction is being followed by the project

  • Ensure the documentation of learning and financial transaction in a way that can enable all stakeholders can transparently access and learn from it

  • Support on advocacy and information sharing on MSD learning and support partners to share learnings, with relevant stakeholders

  • Ensures that local market actors have clear understanding of
    gender equality and safeguarding within their organization
    Responsible for ensuring the Programme accountant conducts the market actor finance manual assessment with the implementing partners

  • Collaborate in Preparing and ensuring timely submission of all narrative reports and other requested documents to CST

  • Submit timely activity and financial progress reports to CST offices using the approved format

  • Performing additional activities assigned by the PM

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in agricultural economics, business management, marketing and sales management, agricultural development studies, gender development, and other relevant social science studies.

    Experience

  • For BA degree holders at least 5 years and above in areas of livelihood and business development and M&E and for MA holders at least 3 years’ work experience is required. NGO experience is mandatory.

    Skills Required

  • Experience in the areas of value chain is required, basic knowledge and skill in areas of feasibility studies, business plan preparation; value chain marketing, market system development and report writing is advantageous,

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability and willingness to operate independently in remote and potentially hazardous environments for protracted periods, involving physical hardship

  • Command of MS Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); Strong writing, reporting and communication skills; and Good command of English, Oromiffa and Amharic, both written and spoken.
