Christian Mission for Development (CMD) is a registered non-profit, humanitarian relief and development organization based in Juba, South Sudan. CMD was founded in 2005 following the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement – CPA.
Since then, CMD has been operational as a humanitarian and development organization mitigating suffering, providing lifesaving assistance and holistic social services to most vulnerable communities focusing especially on women, children and youths in South Sudan.

Background and Role Purpose
Christian Mission for Development (CMD) is hiring a self-driven, competent and result-oriented Education Specialist to provide technical support to CMD’s country Office responding to medium and large-scale emergencies.
The Education specialist will be expected to lead on sectoral assessment, programme design and master-budgeting, coordination (including the Cluster), and support fundraising, recruitment and procurement liaising and linking with other sectors as appropriate.
The post-holder will be expected to mentor and/or capacity build existing education staff specifically engaged in humanitarian programme and the EIE working groups.
Furthermore, the post holder will contribute to the overall development of an improved emergency response capacity in CMD.
An important part of the position will be to support the Country Office in proposals development for local and international fundraising.
Role, Tasks and Responsibilities
Coordination and Resource Mobilization
Actively contribute to EiE Coordination Mechanisms in country. Where required, take a co-leadership role in the Education Cluster or the Education Sector Working Group.
Establish/maintain new/existing relationships with key donors.
Support CMD’s Country Office to build a diversified portfolio of funding for EiE. Develop quality proposals in response to identified opportunities at CO level.
Assessment and Program Design
Ensure all Education programming has a strong gender and child protection mainstreaming in line with CMD’s GBV and Child Protection Policy (2018-2022).
Lead education needs assessments in coordination with CMD’s other programmatic areas and country-based Education partners, National and State Education Clusters and EiE Working Groups.
Provide technical assistance to the field teams in Jonglei and Upper Nile States on Education quality programing, community engagement and protection mainstreaming.
Ensure that all EiE interventions are linked to longer term programming and the prevention of child, early and forced marriage.
Program Implementation
Support CMD Country Office to ensure programmes
are implemented according to CMD’s Strategic Plan (2018-2022), Emergency Contingency plan, Education in Emergency minimum standards and within the framework of Education Cluster programming.
Conduct summative and formative capacity assessment of Education Staff; design and implement training and continuous capacity building relevant to their capacity needs.
Through cooperation, support integrated programming within education, ECD, child protection and other programs such as Nutrition and WASH.
Contribute to the alignment of CMD’s Education in Emergencies work with key cross cutting priorities.
Ensure that EiE interventions are aligned with the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies Minimum Standards (INEE MS) and other existing global guidelines and tools for EiE.
Identify EiE program supply needs and coordinate with the logistics team to ensure timely procurement and delivery.
Monitoring and Evaluation, Reporting and Accountability
Document key learning from the EiE responses.
Produce timely reports on EiE projects in compliance with internal procedures and donor requirements.
Compile and submit 5Ws reports, departmental/project progress report as required.
Report according to M & E framework.
Contributing to the establishment of accountability activities for education, ensuring that feedback from all relevant stakeholders is considered throughout all phases of the response.
Advocacy
Contribute in the design of national and sub-national initiatives to magnified educational efforts
Develop business cases that support education programming and policies
Technical expertise, skills and knowledge
Essential
Advance University Degree or equivalent in education or related fields
Proven record in implementing education progammes, preferably in emergency context, minimum 3 years’ field experience
Experience in project cycle management
Good knowledge of and experience in INEE Minimum Standards and with the Education Cluster
Experience in program design and proposal development (concept notes)
Proven ability to secure funding from public and private funding streams. Proven skills in report/proposal writing
Experience of conducting education needs assessments, preferably in emergency context
Proven ability to offer technical support
Experience of capacity building on education
Experience of designing and delivering training
Fluency in English, written and spoken
