Role Purpose

  • This role is the technical lead for Economic Justice within Christian Aid’s ongoing funding partnership with the Open Society Foundations. Christian Aid’s Economic Justice strategy and Open Society Foundations-funded workstream share a vision to create a diverse movement to reimagine the global financial architecture from a justice perspective and influence multilateral decision-making over the next two years. This role will be pivotal in enabling the movement to develop joint policy and advocacy.

  • This role will ensure the delivery of high-quality policy, advocacy, movement building and programming in accordance with Christian Aid’s Programme Quality Standards. The postholder will play a pivotal role to contribute to Christian Aid’s economic justice policy and advocacy strategy and ensuring integration between our national, global and regional advocacy around both economic justice and governance & rights.

    Key Outcomes

  • Oversee the global and regional advocacy partnerships who are delivering the Open Society Foundations workstream and support other programmes that align closely with the workstream with support and guidance from the Economic Justice Lead

  • Provide technical lead to the wider Open Society programme on economic justice advocacy, related to global finance architecture reform, tax justice, debt issues and

  • Strengthen the capacity of a diverse network of gender and climate actors to effectively advocate for a wider global economic architecture reform

  • Develop and implement relevant and appropriate financial reporting mechanisms for the OSF programme, and support the wider programme by undertaking all partner grant disbursements

  • Ensure that all programme advocacy is delivered in line with Christian Aid’s Programme Quality Standards

  • Disseminate the programme learning both internally and externally and ensure that lessons learned shape and transform the programme

  • Advisory support within the wider GAP team

    Essential

  • Post graduate or equivalent in economics, international development or relevant discipline

  • Significant
    experience in delivering programmes funded by external donors such as Trusts and Foundations

  • Significant experience of working with coalition/networks of Civil Society and other like-minded groups and local partners on advocacy and policy, and of providing partner support and capacity building in planning, management.

  • Ability to effectively network and support movement building, with the ability to develop a wide range of relevant contacts

  • Detailed understanding of current thinking/ debates on economic justice and global economic architecture reform

  • Substantial knowledge and experience of programme and advocacy approaches to economic justice, (i.e. policy research and advocacy, tax and debt, aid flows, inclusive budget cycles)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to discuss sensitive issues and inspire others to take up new challenges

  • Demonstrable ability to build effective working relationships across organisations, including at a distance

  • Demonstrable experience working in global justice movements with an ability to build strong and cohesive relationships within complex and nuanced civil society environments.

  • Creative thinking and track record of delivering innovative programme

  • Highly developed communication skills in English (written and orally)

  • Highly developed facilitation skills and ability to promote critical thinking and reflection

    Desirable

  • Experience of advocacy programming with civil society

  • Experience of working with Open Society Foundations

  • Experience of grant and financial management
