Christian Aid NGO Project Officer - Nutrition - Jobs in Kenya
The Project Officer-Nutrition is responsible for the overall coordination, planning, provision of technical direction and oversight to local partners implementing nutrition interventions in Christian Aid.
The role is responsible for contributing to the development of Christian Aid policy, strategy, thought leadership and communication in Nutrition under the Health stream of work.
To contribute to the representation of Christian Aid to external stakeholders on Nutrition and undertake liaison and advocacy
with County and National Government partners and officials on project activities and related nutrition issues to influence and contribute to the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) agenda.
Coordinate and represent Christian Aid County and National authorities and ensure activities are carried out in line with National and County strategies as far as possible and their participation. (30%).
To be responsible for recommending grants to partners, and leading in project and budget management in line with Christian Aid policies and procedures, that ensures effective disbursement of funds to Christian Aid partners, ensures funds are used for approved purposes, and ensures timely reporting based on
robust data on activities, outputs, and impact of the project and serve as a resource person on capacity development activities on Nutrition.
The project officer will ensure that project/s are delivered on time and
within budget. (30%)
In collaboration with the Program Manager and other support functions, assist fundraising initiatives aimed at increasing the current project portfolio size by providing information for proposal writing, seeking opportunities for participating in consortia and representing the organisation in fundraising forums.
Contribute towards the development and dissemination of Christian Aid Nutrition work through publications (general, thematic sector, academic) in consultation with other support functions. (30%)
Engage in personal development for furtherance of Christian Aid Nutrition work including reading, training, mentoring and coaching among others (10%).
Responsibilities
Strong portfolio of partners able to respond and deliver outcomes in support of Christian Aid’s Nutrition program.
Ensuring through efficient planning and project & budget management that projects are delivered on time, within budget and deliver high quality outputs and impact.
Compliance with financial policies and procedures including budget-variance analysis, reporting requirements and contribution made to other team members in the development and
implementation of partner capacity building and training.
Thought leadership through operational research, evidence based communication products, conferences, thematic meeting attendance, presentations at thematic conferences, and side events at development conferences among others.
Efficient partner sub granting based on robust project designs, planning and evaluation
procedures using Christian Aid’s systems.
Decisions on programe work in the country informed by Christian Aid’s
strategic focus areas.
Strong linkages between partner work and advocacy, communications and fundraising roles
within the UK. This role will include fund raising.
Modelling key behaviours of self-leadership, teamwork, integrity and decisiveness in realizing the Christian Aid Kenya business model and strategy
Relationships
External Key relationships: The role is responsible for managing relationships with partners, county and national Government and other stakeholders to ensure delivery of projects managed and meet the goals
and objectives of Christian Aid.
Internal: The position is line managed by the Programme Manager. The role links up strongly with the
Programme Officer (Monitoring Evaluation and Learning), Programme Finance Officer, Communications Officer and other relevant officers in the Country Program and Regional Offices.
The role has the responsibility of ensuring good relations with other roles in fundraising and advocacy in Christian Aid in the UK and Ireland
Qualifications
Essentials
Minimum of a bachelor’s Degree in food nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science or Community nutrition or related field from a recognized university
Minimum two years field experience in implementing nutrition project for NGO/INGO
Demonstrated experience in integrating Food Security and Nutrition and linkage between nutrition and other sectors
Demonstrate experience and skills in advocacy
Experience in local level partnerships including County Government and National Governments Line Ministries (Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Environment, Ministry of Water and other stakeholders)
MUST be registered with the Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute (KNDI)
Demonstrate capacity in constructively engaging local authorities and local partners.
Ability to work under minimal supervision and have impact on input on program indicators
Excellent organization, coordination, report writing and team management skills
Strong and effective communication and presentation skills
Desirable
Post graduate qualification in Climate Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Natural Resource Management or any other relevant field
Monitoring and evaluation certificate or on job training
Understanding of county, National and International Climate Change Adaptations issues and priorities
