Contract: 18 months Contract with a possibility of transfer to other projects( 3 months probation period)
Salary: KES 100,000-150,000 (negotiable based on skills and experience)
Holiday: 25 days pro rata

The role
This is an opportunity to join a small but growing and fast-paced international development organisation. We are looking for a self-driven and dynamic Project Coordinator to coordinate our Pregnant Women’s Group project in Meru. The PWG project is a three year Maternal and Child Health programme funded by UKAID that is now in its second year of implementation
The role will involve general coordination of activities and management of partnerships with the Ministry of Health at County and Sub-county level.
The role will be based in Igembe Central , Meru County at Kangeta Sub-County Hospital where our office is located. The incumbent will work very closely with the team in Nairobi. Monthly travel to Nairobi is expected.
Main Responsibilities
Project management
Provide ongoing technical assistance and coordination to the team to ensure effective planning of activities, quality delivery and adherence to donor guidelines.
Maintain up to date documentation relating to project implementation.
Participating in the development and review of quarterly and annual project work plans and budgets; and recommending new approaches for improving project’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Review and track progress on project implementation as well as on the utilization of project resources.
Facilitating project related workshops and training.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
Working closely with the programming team both in Nairobi and Meru in carrying out regular M&E audits.
Compiling, analyzing and reporting data for key programmatic outputs, outcomes, and impact indicators, including routine data validation.
Ensuring timely production of monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external M&E reports based on agreed performance indicators.
Continuously using evidence gathered to improve the quality of our programming and identifying new areas of opportunity.
Budget Management
Support in the preparation of quarterly and annual project budget and forecasts.
Monitor budget utilization and expenditure.
Managing the Meru Office petty cash; this will include making weekly budget requests for project activities from the Nairobi office and reconciliation of cash spend.
External Relations
Represent Child.org at county level and sub-county level Technical Working Groups, committees and meetings.
Undertake advocacy initiatives to push for increased budget allocation towards maternal health in county health budgets.
Communicate effectively to different stakeholders/platforms/audiences about Child.org’s work.
Line Management Responsibility
Lead the PWG project team in Meru; this will include the project officer, field supervisor
and a team of Community Health Volunteers.
Offer ongoing mentorship and support to the PWG project implementation team in Meru
About you
You will have a good understanding of programming and working with County and Sub-County Health Management Teams. You have a passion for health and women’s empowerment programming. You will have a good understanding of maternal health in the Kenyan context with experience working in maternal and child health, and/or adolescent sexual and reproductive health projects.
You are the kind of person who wants to have an impact, who is very agile with excellent problem solving skills and communication skills and works under minimal supervision. There is no room for someone who looks forward to 5pm arriving so they can leave. We don’t want you to stay after 5pm very often, but we want you to be unhappy about that.
You will spend the majority of your time on our UKAID funded Maternal and Child Health Project in Meru. The Pregnant Women’s Group project is a project that aims to create a supportive environment for 5700 rural poor women to learn about maternal health and increase their confidence with the intention that this intervention will improve maternal and child well being.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health or equivalent academic degree in other relevant subjects.
Qualified health professional (desirable).
At least 3 years demonstrable experience in:
Implementing Public Health development programs with a focus on Maternal and Child Health.
Training Community Health Assistants and volunteers and facilitating community dialogue sessions.
Male engagement in complex socio-cultural contexts.
Setting up and running effective women’s empowerment programmes through group formations in a community set up.
Running effective awareness campaigns which have led to increases in levels of utilization of local health services.
Running successful training that have positively changed and entrenched cultural behavior within a community.
Knowledge and Skills:
Competency with a statistical database such as EPI Info, SPSS, or STATA is desirable
Sound computer literacy skills, especially Excel/Google Sheet formulas/Google docs.
vMonitoring and Evaluation experience is an asset.
Working in complex cultural environments.
Good negotiation and diplomatic skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Good report writing skills.
