Position:

  • Senior Program Associate

    CHAI Kenya is seeking a Senior Associate to work in the Kenya Health workforce Program. The goal of the program is to support the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with other stakeholders, to develop health workforces by enhancing their capacity to train highly qualified health workers and by strengthening national systems to finance, deploy and manage target health workers.

    CHAI’s health workforce programs vary by country, as they reflect the major barriers and opportunities to workforce development in that specific context, as well as the priorities of the host government.

    Location:

  • Nairobi, Kenya

    This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with periodic travel (up to 40%) within the country.

    Responsibilities

    Collaborate closely with the Kenya Paediatric Association (KPA) counterpart to achieve the following:

  • Convene stakeholders to define project deliverables, timeline and approach, including criteria for strategic selection and deployment of trainees
  • Convene and provide coordination support to the program working group for pediatric training selection and deployment
  • Collect, clean and analyze data on workforce availability and need to inform strategic selection and deployment
  • Develop and ensure utilization of the results framework for pediatric training grant suite
  • Develop information systems and reporting flows against agreed indicators and reporting timelines in results framework
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with national and county government focal points responsible for training
    selection and deployment
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with training institutions and other key partners

    In addition the Senior Associate is responsible for the following:
  • Design and implementation of a capacity assessment for KPA; use results to co-develop capacity building plan with KPA
    Design and conduct evaluation of graduate deployment and retention in the third year of the project
  • Complete donor reports and other administrative duties as needed
  • The Senior Associate will work hand-in-hand with a KPA-appointed counterpart, meanwhile ensuring that the necessary systems and organizational capacity is being built within KPA to execute these functions

    Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent plus 5 years work experience; or Advanced Degree plus 3 years work experience
  • Demonstrated experience with coordination of and consensus building with senior government and organizational stakeholders toward a common goal
  • Intermediate analytical, research and presentation skills, including proficiency with data management, analysis and tool building
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated strong project management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and deliver against expectations without close supervision
  • Ability to work with humility and achieve results
  • High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications

    Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working in the public health sector in Kenya or other similar settings
  • Demonstrated experience working with academic institutions including universities and academic medical centers on pre-service training for health workers
  • Post graduate degree in public health, business, economics or related disciplines
