Position SummaryThe finance assistant is responsible for transacting and accurately documenting cash and cheque transactions, and preparing payment against approved invoices, and ensures all cash received/ income are deposited to the appropriate bank account promptly. The job holder also assisting finance support to the college of health science finance department as required.
Duties
Effect petty cash payment only against complete and approved documents;
Ensure that advance payments are settled as per the policy;
Update petty cash register and check register regularly;
Prepare petty cash replenishment request when the balance approaches limit set by the organization and ensure cash availability;
Prepares payment voucher and checks based on approved payment requests;
Ensure that ‘PAID’ stamp is completed on payments, and Replenished stamp on petty cash payment vouchers and supporting documents;
Effect timely payment of CDT-Africa Ethiopia’s statutory obligations such as, income tax, withholding tax and pension contribution;
Prepare letter to bank to transfer fund and collect bank advice timely;
Ensure that the filing system of the finance department is up to date and in order;
Handle incoming and outgoing letters related to the finance office;
Ascertain that office supplies are available for the finance office;
Facilitate photocopy, fax and other secretarial services for finance office;
Provide support during financial audits;
Prepare payment of workshop/training organized by CDT-Africa, when assigned;
Perform other duties as assigned by the center and or by immediate supervisor.
Prepare stipend payments for CDT-Africa students.
Job Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities
Good understanding of financial, bookkeeping, and general administrative management principles.
Excellent problem solving skills; ability to analyze data, along with the capacity to accurately perform a variety of financial tasks by establishing priorities.
Experience and proficiency on financial software and reporting systems.
Ability to work independently and under tight time constraints.
Computer proficiency in general office software and Accounting software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Peachtree Accounting, IFMIS, QuickBooks, IFRS etc).
Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English
Experience
Bachelors in Accounting/Finance with Five years of experience.
World bank and/or European funding experience is required.
