About CRSCatholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance, and peacebuilding.
CRS has worked in Uganda since 1965, initially providing emergency assistance to Sudanese refugees living in the north. Over the years, CRS has expanded its programming to also address development needs in western, central, and eastern Uganda.
CRS' projects in Uganda currently include agriculture, health, microfinance, peacebuilding, and youth. CRS Uganda implements its programs through partnerships with local organizations, including the Catholic Church, other faith-based organizations and community entities for maximum impact and sustainability. CRS Uganda employs around 190 staff and has its head office in Kampala, with sub-offices in Moroto, Yumbe, and Hoima.
About Project:The Global Evergreening Alliance (GEA), of which CRS is a member, has secured a 5 year, $ 160m investment for Restore Africa Program which covers 6 Eastern and Southern Africa Countries. In Uganda, the program will be implemented by CRS (as the lead implementing organization), CARE, World Vision, ICRAF, ECOTRUST and Uganda Landcare Network with a goal of restoring 560,000ha of degraded landscapes in the West Afromontane, Mt. Elgon and part of Karamoja.
The program will pursue a small holder farmer led approach to restoration supporting profitable agroforestry systems that support profitability and productivity of farms.
Job Summary:As a member of the Restore Africa project team, project team, you will monitor and report on all project activities in support of Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work serving the poor and vulnerable. Your thorough and service-oriented approach will ensure that the project consistently applies best practices and constantly works towards improving the impact of its benefits to those we serve.
Roles and Key Responsibilities:
Support the coordination and implementation of all assigned Restore Africa project activities as outlined in the detailed implementation plan in line with CRS program quality principles and standards, donor requirements, and good practices.
Monitor and report any challenges and/or gaps identified to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules. Assist project staff in their efforts to
effectively plan and execute the project work plan.
Collect information on staff capacity needs and liaise with CRS country program staff to ensure smooth execution of project activities.
Complete project documentation for assigned activities. Assist with identifying information for case studies and reports on promising practices.
Ensure proper tracking of resources used for project activities through periodic budget reviews, follow-up with the procurement and administrative functions and overall assistance to the Restore Africa DCOP 1 – Finance and Operations.
Support and coordinate capacity building and technical support to project staff and partners to ensure assigned project activities are implemented per project guidelines and standards.
Help ensure project administrative systems and processes are in line with agency standards and donor and local law regulations.
Coordinate the provision of travel and logistics support and services to staff and visitors. Coordinate event planning activities, including global team visits, trainings, and workshops.
Coordinate and report on activities and required resources to ensure cost efficient and quality service delivery.
Basic background, experience, and requirements:
Education and experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 2 years of work experience in project support. Experience in the field of International Development and for an NGO is strongly preferred.
Degree and/or experience in Finance, Management, and/or Administration a plus.
Additional experience may substitute for some education.
Experience in participatory action planning and community engagement.
Experience monitoring projects and collecting relevant data preferred.
Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Personal Skills
Observation, active listening, and analysis skills with ability to make sound judgment.
Good relationship management skills and the ability to work closely and collaborate with staff, partners, and community members.
Attention to details, accuracy, and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities.
