Job DescriptionCanadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR) has been working in Ethiopia since 1984. Its initial intervention was predominantly focused on famine relief through the provision of emergency health service assistance to people affected by famine.
CPAR’s major humanitarian and emergency interventions were a supply of skilled personnel, medical supplies and materials for emergency, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and health services.
CPAR, in response to the “Partnerships for Her Voice, Her Choice” call for proposals by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), has developed a 4 years’ project proposal entitled “Enhancing Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights for Women and Adolescents” (ESWA).
The project aims to improve women and adolescent girls reproductive, sexual health and rights by increasing awareness of and access to high quality gender-responsive and youth-friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services in selected zones in the Amhara and Oromia Regional States.
This project proposal has been selected and funded by GAC. As a result, CPAR, in collaboration with various universities and local partners will implement the project. For this project, CPAR is seeking qualified candidates for different positions and locations.
Principal Function:
The Project Manager will have the responsibility of managing, coordinating, ensuring, and participating in the smooth running of all the project activities in accordance with general policies, procedures, budget and instructions put forward by the GAC and CPAR. The Project Manager will also be responsible for the day to day performance of the project.
Specific roles and responsibilities: Effective management and implementation of project activities in accordance with the developed objectives and indicators, including oversight of the project, implementation provision of quality assurance and technical support, leadership of project staff and the development of clear work plans.
Makes timely communication with the Country Program Manager, Program Officers and Admin
and Finance Manager on the project management and financial issues that need consultations and decisions.
Coordinates, facilitates and participates in effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation of the project.
Implementation of tracking and performance measurement consistent with established and agreed practices; ensures timely and quality preparations of periodic reports (activities and financial) and case studies.
Liaise with relevant local authorities; ensure that all relevant parties are kept informed of project activities where appropriate.
Contribute, lead, monitor the project performance and develop/adapt strategies for optimal results;
Ensures the optimum use of human, financial and material resources associated with the project.
Supervises and facilitates the preparation of operating project budgets, approves and authorizes and projects expenditures.
Assesses the proper and timely utilization of the project budget, estimates expenditures in relation to the planned activities and requests budget periodicals as per the financial regulations of CPAR.
Performs other related activities as required.
Job Requirements
Required qualifications:
Master’s degree in Public Health, Global health, Health project management or related field and 5 years project management work experience.
Experience in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health programs.
Takes initiative and is goal oriented
Good communication and writing skills, is adaptable, flexible and resourceful, , able to adopt an organized and methodological approach, sense of confidentiality.
Knowledge and experience working with partnerships, particularly in a sexual and reproductive health project is advantageous.
