Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Assistant provides transportation, delivery and errand services to all mission programs, arranges for car maintenance, and provides basic administrative, maintenance and support services to the mission following established mission and departmental policies.
The incumbent must be proficient in English sufficient to understand instructions and communicate information as required to carry out the duties below and communicate with local authorities/traffic wardens where and if required.
The incumbent may be required to undertake special training to drive an armoured vehicle for the security of mission personnel.
Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
Education:
Minimum High School Diploma
Language:
English (written and oral)
Experience:
Recent experience* in a professional driving capacity as a chauffeur/ driver/ messenger
Recent experience* working with a range of computer applications
Recent experience* in working in a general office environment and following standard office procedures.
Recent experience is defined as a minimum of three (3) years within the last 5 years.
Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed.
Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:
Proficiency in the other official language of Canada (French)
Heavy duty/ Armoured vehicle driving license/training
Previous driving experience for a diplomatic mission, international/ governmental organization or private sector
Experience in vehicle maintenance
Training related to provision of minor maintenance related to areas such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc.
If candidates meet the factors listed in the asset qualifications they must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their covering letter.

Operational Requirements:
Availability and willingness to work overtime when required.
Availability and willingness to travel occasionally and on short notice.
May be required to work shifts as determined by the employer
Condition(s) of Employment:
Must possess and maintain a valid permanent South African driver’s license.
Must for the past 5 years have held and be able to maintain a satisfactory safe driving record (Driver’s abstract).
South African citizenship, holder of a valid South Africa
residence permit or otherwise legally able to work at the High Commission (please note The High Commission of Canada does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly).
Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance.
Please note that the Reliability Status Clearance must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy as failure to do so may result in dismissal.
This includes a criminal and credit background check.
Ability to meet the medical requirements as defined by the employer. Successful candidate(s) may be required to undergo a medical evaluation.
Must be able to obtain and retain a valid travel document and be willing, able and legally admissible to travel within and outside of South Africa
