The Organization

  • Started in 2006, Building Tomorrow improves access to child-friendly, community-supported schools by providing an inclusive, transformative education for underserved children.

  • Through our Thriving Schools program, we deploy Building Tomorrow Fellows, the change agents who recruit and train Community Education Volunteers, together bringing out-of-school children into the classroom while working with school leadership to ensure access to an inclusive, transformative school environment.

  • We also work hand-in-hand with local communities, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Education to construct new primary schools where no formal primary school exists.

  • To date, with a full-time staff of 105, Building Tomorrow has enrolled over 55,000 out-of-school children and reaches over 101,000 students daily.

  • Building Tomorrow has received funding and recognition for its innovative work from the Clinton Global Initiative, Educate A Child, Mastercard Foundation, Echoing Green, the Segal Family Foundation, and Forbes Magazine.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Strategy, Program Analysis & Learning (30%)

  • Leading the organization-wide design and oversight of MEL activities and priorities

  • Publishing a monthly dashboard for program and organization leadership on progress toward key indicators

  • Leading strategic collaboration activities with key stakeholders including Ministry of Education and District officials

  • Managing regular analysis of project data to gather key learnings and recommendations, and inform current focus areas and the larger MEL strategic plan

    Data Systems and Tools Management (20%)

  • Developing tools and systems for tracking KPIs, and donor- or project-specific progress and impact indicators

  • Leading regular evaluation of the organization’s tools and systems to ensure they continue to meet stated needs

  • Coordinating data quality assessments (DQAs) for all programs and field-based efforts, and leading continuous systems improvement based on these assessments

  • Ensuring findings and recommendations from program reviews, DQAs, and other analysis is well documented and embeded into revised strategic and program oversight plans

    Reporting & Research (20%)

  • Leading the design, planning and implementation of impact research, including for baselines, midlines, end-lines, and selection and management of third-party evaluators

  • Enlivening data for donors and organization leadership through clear analysis, data visualization, mapping, and info graphic creation

  • Continuously building new data management skills, and keeping pace with new MEL tools, systems, and global trends

    Training & Coaching (30%)

  • Training staff in data analysis, evaluation, and management, as well as curating regular practicum-style, on-the-job learning opportunities for them to build MEL skills

  • Leading regular, comprehensive project monitoring and evaluation workshops for teams to interrogate and analyze their programs

  • Engendering curiosity about our work and impact through regular MEL workshops with program and organizational leaders

  • Providing day-to-day technical support for program and management staff to interpret collected data and make informed decisions for improvements

  • Curating opportunities for cross-organizational learning and sharing of best practices in the education and community development sectors

    Must Have

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce quality written products tailored to various
    audiences

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and a team-oriented mentality

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Highly motivated and ability to self-start, as well as see through projects from beginning to end

  • Professional demeanor and willingness to engage with partners through email, phone calls, and in-person meetings

  • Strong time management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks at once

  • A curiosity in the world around him/her
    Proven leadership skills and experience managing other staff

  • Proficiency data visualization software, GiS and mapping software, and Microsoft (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) necessary. Familiarity with Stata (or similar statistical analysis tool), Salesforce, and mobile data collection program like TaroWorks a plus.

  • A minimum of seven years progressive experience in MEL, and minimum of two years in a manager or director role

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, a degree in monitoring and evaluation, project planning and management, statistics, demography or other related subject is preferred.

  • Masters or post-graduate degree in a relevant field preferred
