Responsibilities
To increase staff engagement with the Diplomatic Academy Africa Practitioner Level (PL) learning offer across the Africa network in order to build Africa-specific knowledge and expertise
To gather local knowledge from the network to feed back into learning resources and the Africa curriculum
To assist and support the Learning Development and Skills (LDS) Manager based in London
To collaborate and partner as required with Diplomatic Academy Regional Teams (DART) colleagues to help grow and embed a proactive and positive learning culture across the Africa network
Encourage and facilitate knowledge and expertise uplift across the Africa network, primarily through the Diplomatic Academy Africa Practitioner Level States & Societies Faculty offer open to all UK Government staff but also through knowledge of, and signposting to, complementary existing L&D material from multiple sources
Identify Africa-specific knowledge and expertise learning needs in the network. Develop creative ways to meet these such as podcasts, learning sheets or session outlines, liaising with subject matter experts on content. Effectively use technology to deliver to those working on the strategic approach to Africa
Work with Posts, FCO departments and others to identify and gather relevant knowledge and expertise from the network and devise effective ways to feed this back
into the Africa L&D offer
With DART colleagues, co-ordinate the growth of a positive learning culture in the network that values and uses L&D to achieve business objectives. This includes understanding how the DARTs work with Posts to develop their L&D strategy and collaborating with the DART in promoting L&D best practice
Encouraging Posts to create or run their own learning interventions within the Diplomatic Academy Africa Practitioner Level and occasionally delivering pre-prepared content when visiting Posts
Work with the Embassy, LDS Manager, Research Analysts and external stakeholders to deliver a workshop on the African Union and other multilateral bodies in Addis Ababa in February 2020. Identify ways to ensure that relevant follow up learning material and opportunities are generated by the event
Requirements
Stakeholder management. The jobholder will be required to collaborate with British High Commissions, Embassies, HMG staff and external stakeholders such as academic institutions and service providers. The successful applicant will therefore need good communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience of designing, implementing or evaluating learning solutions, campaigns or staff engagement programmes that use technology and meet specific needs, or an ability to show strong engagement or understanding of L&D principle
To be able to travel within the Sub-Saharan Africa region as and when required (with notice)
A passion, enthusiasm and ability for developing people and organisations
A demonstrable and genuine commitment to their own continuous professional development
Experience of running learning sessions, facilitation skills or presentation skills, both live and virtual
Content management and curation ability
