Main purpose of job:
To lead on the priority campaigns of agri-tech and renewable energy in Ethiopia, as well as non-campaign sectors.
This includes planning, scoping and engaging with stakeholders to deliver wins for UK companies, and delivering events and activities in support of the campaign.
To provide analysis and advice on the renewable energy, agri-tech and non-campaign sectors to help drive UK trade interests in Ethiopia.
To support other sector campaigns as appropriate, working with the Head of Trade in Ethiopia.
To manage the Ethiopian team’s budget, ensuring it utilise resources effectively, strategically and transparently.
Roles and responsibilities
This is a great opportunity to work in an exciting and challenging environment on a high profile agenda within the British Embassy.
The renewable energy and agri-tech sectors are a top priority for UK trade interests in the region, and there are many major opportunities in Ethiopia to pursue.
The role focuses on supporting British companies seeking commercial success, and also on identifying major future opportunities as well as ‘quick wins’.
It requires the tenacity to support British companies achieve success in Ethiopia, as well as the ability to assess the sector and provide advice on where the strategic opportunities lie.
The Trade Advisor will be a confident self-starter, a team player with excellent communication skills, and the ability to network with a wide range of contacts at senior levels in Government and the private sector.
In addition, s/he will be expected to provide high quality analysis and advice on sector-specific developments.
S/he will be responsible for delivering to a challenging set of targets reflecting support to successful UK export wins in Ethiopia in agri-tech, renewable energy and non-campaign sectors.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Degree in business, economics, management, finance or related field
At least 3 years’ experience in trade services and/or supporting private sector companies/organisations in doing business
Knowledge
of Ethiopia’s Economy and Business Environment
An understanding of mining and agritech sectors in Ethiopia
Good computer skills and ability to work in a virtual team
Excellent in spoken and written English
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Knowledge of the UK economy and areas of UK competitive advantage
Understanding of major project life cycles
Required competencies

The role is 36 hr per week and arrangements for flexibility will need to be discussed and approved by the line manager
