Job Purpose

  • The General Manager shall provide overall oversight and leadership of the company to ensure that formulated strategies are implemented in line with the overall strategic.

  • Oversee the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures across all business units to ensure consistency and quality assurance in all business activities.

  • Working with the Exco team, adopt effective Corporate Governance Framework and best practices which promote and advocate transparency, accountability and responsibility. .

    Summary of Key Responsibilities:

    • Take the leading in the Corporate Strategy and Policy Formulation and implementation

    • Ensure that the company is completely setup, operationalized and embarks on growth path to profitability.

    • Interpret the Company’s Vision and Mission to work towards achievement of set goals.

    • Ensure that a proper Performance Management System is in place and is effectively applied at all levels so that individual KPIs are aligned with Company goals and objectives.

    • Ensure that competent leadership and operational systems are in place, to drive and foster change across all business aspects of the company.

    • Ensure health, safety and wellness initiatives are supported and that relevant policies are understood, followed and implemented by all employees

    • Keep the financial position consistently under review to ensure that there is an appropriate balance of long-term and short-term finance, and that adequate cash flow is available for day-to-day business activities

    • Provide leadership in development of Operational and Capital Expenditure Budgets each year and ensure presentation of the same to the Board of Directors and eventual approval.

    • Ensure a proactive approach to product and service modification to ensure customers are met at their point of need

    • Ensure an excellent brand positioning and a healthy visibility in the market through application of suitable marketing strategies.

    • Work closely with the Chairman in order to ensure that the focus of Board Meetings is on the right issues, information is available in a timely and effective manner and the best advice and counsel are drawn from

    • Board members during meetings and as required
    throughout

    • Develop an effective Business Continuity Plan and ensure deliberate and regular effectiveness reviews are conducted and necessary changes are proposed, approved and implemented.

    • Ensure that operational areas have an updated risk management framework and register in place linked to the company’s risk management strategies

    • Ensure that all business production areas and facilities are always covered by relevant and adequate insurance policies.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree in Agricultural, Economics or Engineering

    • Master’s Degree in any of the above fields or Relevant/Similar Field

    • At least a minimum of ten (10) years of work experience holding a similar position or a senior management position in a reputable organisation

    • Must have a minimum of 4-6 years’ work experience in the Agricultural or Manufacturing sector

    • Working experience with a company that deals in Leaf, Forestry or Timber will be a plus

    • Must be well connected with different Southern Africa Agric/Food Market players and Government Agencies

    • Proven experience of transforming organisations to profit making

    • Must have extensive knowledge in Business Planning, Strategy Formulation, Corporate Governance, Sales and Marketing and Financial Management

    • Should be conversant with the Zambian legal and regulatory frameworks

    • Must have a good understanding of Business, Government and Agric/Food Manufacturing Industry Processes

    • Must be a member of a relevant professional body
