Job DescriptionOrganization overviewBread for the World (BftW) is a Germany based international development agency. It operates a Horn of Africa Regional Office located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, registered with the Agency of Civil Societies Organizations.
The Horn of Africa Regional Office works with partners in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan in the following main thematic areas:
(1) food security and agriculture,
(2) rural development,
(3) essential resources/ecological dimension of sustainable development,
(4) civil society support,
(5) basic social service and
(6) conflict management and peace building.
Bread for the World hereby invites qualified applicants to apply for the following second level management position.
Project Management Supervises, coaches and mentors the program associate in their day to day activities.
Management of partner dialogue regarding development, implementation, evaluation, monitoring, reporting (narrative and financial) and closing of partner projects.
Active participation in the administrative, thematic and strategic work of the program team.
Reviews, assesses and consults with partners on project applications including conceptual, methodological, operational, evaluative, and financial aspects.
Prepares written summaries and analysis of project applications for the review by the Program/Finance Mangers.
Develops and writes project proposals for submission to approval boards based on partners’ project applications, in consultation and review by the Program Manager.
Enters information into database (Fachanwendung-FA) and monitor its process.
Makes site visits as necessary and appropriate.
Take a lead to assist partners throughout the project/program cycle – (design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and programs).
Appraises the accuracy of project budgets, budget revisions, project closures and assess their conformity with organizational requirements.
Appraises partner’s project narrative and audited financial reports on a regular basis (every six months) and final reports.
Approves fund requests from partners reviewed by the program associate on a regular basis.
Participate in capacity development trainings of partners.
Ensures that up-to date, complete and accurate files are maintained for all projects in his/her portfolio.
Coordinates mid-term and terminal evaluations.
Consults the program team management about issues arising from financial and programmatic project reviews and follows up with appropriate recommendations and action points.
Interacts with a wide range of domestic and international partners.
Specializes in at least one of the following six focus areas of the organization:
1. food security and agriculture,
2. rural development,
3. essential resources/ecological dimension of sustainable development,
4. civil society,
5. basic social services, health and education, conflict management, reconciliation and peace building

Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written are required
Knowledge of other regional languages as well as in-debt contextual
knowledge of regional countries (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan) are a plus,

Job Requirements
Qualifications
Academic expertise
Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, health, social science, political science or related field in any of PADD’s thematic areas
(1. food security and agriculture,
2. rural development,
3. essential resources/ecological dimension of sustainable development,
4. civil society,
5. basic social services, health and education, 6. conflict management, reconciliation and peace building) or other relevant degree
Or Master’s Degree in related development studies
Experiences
Minimum of 6 years for M.SC/MA or 8 years for B.SC/BA of relevant work experience
Minimum of 4 years work experiences in international NGO setting
Experience with issues such as gender, population growth, HIV/AIDS, environment, disability/differently abled person is an additional asset
Ability to speak, read and write other regional languages, especially Arabic and Somali as well as in-debt contextual knowledge of regional countries (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan) are a definite asset
