Job SummaryThe Education Training Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day management of education activities in Eastern Equatoria for the USAID-funded Education for Peace, Recovery, and Resilience (EPRR) project.
EPRR is a three-year USAID funded project that will provide flexible and responsive education services for conflict affected children and youth in South Sudan.
The Education Training Specialist’s responsibilities include training the Master Teachers that are responsible for training the Volunteer Teachers and providing coaching and supervision support to promote quality learning at the schools, working with the school management committees (SMCs) and parent teacher associations (PTAs), supporting reporting and monitoring of implementation, and managing key stakeholder relationships.
They will report to the Program Manager.
Main Responsibility of the Role
● Establish relationships with existing non-formal primary schools
● Recruit Master Teachers and Volunteer Teachers
● Establish additional cohorts of Community Girls Schools (CGS) at BRAC-supported schools
● Ensure delivery of teaching and learning materials to schools either through partners or provided by the project
● Coordinate with relevant stakeholders
● Ensure existing non-formal primary schools supported by EPRR in Eastern Equatoria receive teaching and learning materials produced by the project
● Conduct monitoring and training visits to schools
● Develop and deliver Training of Training (TOT) for Master Teachers on curriculum
● Deliver monthly refresher trainings for Master Teachers
● Serve as a mentor and coach to Master Teachers and Volunteer Teachers as needed
● Coordinate establishment of SMCs and PTAs for existing and new schools
Lead trainings of SMCs and PTAs
● Monitor implementation of curriculum, address any emerging issues and mitigate risks
● Liaise with project partners
● As determined by EPRR project leadership, represent the EPRR project and BRAC South Sudan in relevant state-level coordination groups on education such as the state-level education and child protection clusters
● Contribute to project reporting processes and document success stories, case studies, best practices and lessons learned
● Supervise 17 Master Teachers
Ensure monthly stipend payments to Master Teachers and Volunteer Teachers
Adhere to BRAC South Sudan Volunteer Policy
Required Qualifications/Person Specifications (Experience, Knowledge and skills)
● Bachelor’s
degree in Education, Education Management, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies and Community Development or related field preferred
● At least 2 years’ experience working for NGOs on education, child protection or related programs in South Sudan, preferred, or similar contexts
● Experience delivering training for project staff and teachers required
● Knowledge of and experience working on US Government, particularly USAID-funded projects or other funders preferred
● Experience teaching primary-level education, preferred
● Strong writing and editing skills
● Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and networking skills
● Strong project management skills
● Strong written and oral English language
