BMDL offers affordable innovative solutions that increase farm productivity, profitability and incomes across the value chain, reduce postharvest losses and improve market access and participation by agro-pastoralists in Africa.
About the position:
Provide overall leadership in the management of the business with an emphasis on new business development, growth, diversification, profitability and long term sustainability.
The candidate will report to the Board of Directors.
Duties and Responsilities
These include:
Strategic functions involving planning, implementation and performance management, and operations functions including processes, technologies, information and knowledge.
Design and implementation of business growth and relationship management strategies.
Manage diverse clients including consumers, producers, suppliers, for-profits, non-profits, donors, governments.
Provide strategic and technical direction in the design, development and promotion of innovative agro-based solutions.
Develop and manage investor and donor relations.
Personnel acquisition, development, management and retention.
Customer and stakeholder relationship management
New product development
Finance and administration.
Monitor and regularly review the financial performance of the company,
Produce regular financial reports for the Board of Directors, donors and investors as required.
Oversee the preparation of management and year-end accounts for audit purposes.
Ensure compliance with internal and donor financial and contractual procedures and policies and national laws.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
Postgraduate degree in Business Administration ideally with an undergraduate qualification in agribusiness, agriculture, agricultural economics, or related field.
Excellent leadership skills with at least 10 years’ experience in senior management in a dynamic and reputable company or organization.
At least 5 years’ experience designing, managing and implementing major donor-funded or investor programs
in Africa.
In-depth understanding of the trends, opportunities and challenges in the agribusiness sector, and ability to develop the capacities of smallholders to access domestic and export markets.
Proven ability to managing large and complex consortia or partnerships involving coordination with national and county governments and diverse stakeholders.
Experience managing or working with a start-up company
Required Skills
This is a new post to manage the company on a full-time basis for an initial 2 years subject to performance and availability of funding.
The successful candidate will be based in Nairobi with frequent travel to the field, and in future, 30% travel to project locations Africa-wide.

Demonstrated strong analytical, managerial, leadership, communications, negotiations and interpersonal skills;
Proven ability to manage multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams, programs and consortia;
Familiarity with major donor and investor funding, regulations and agricultural programs;
