Job Description

  • The Deputy Medical Director of the hospital is accountable to Medical Director and is responsible for all the clinical activities of the center.

  • He/she is in charge of all aspects of clinical cares provided by the center that include clinical services (Nursing, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Imaging, Infection prevention and customer services) and assures the delivery of quality services to all clients.

  • He is responsible for implementing and reviewing standard clinical protocols, performance objectives, productivity benchmarks, compliance measures, patient care workflow planning and medical staff scheduling

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Nursing Services

  • Setting the standards of care and assuming responsibility for their implementation and assuring the quality of nursing care service

  • Assuring the deployment of sufficient and quality Nursing and assistant staff

  • Putting in place nursing staff development program

  • Assures implementation of appropriate structure

  • Putting in place monitoring tools to track key outputs of nursing services

  • Assure availability of necessary policy , procedures and SOP in every service point and follow up of its implementation

  • Set up appropriate patient flow system at every service point and assure its’ implementation

  • Assure appropriate dress code and manner which is conducive to the client

  • Build a unique culture of Bethzatha which focuses on respect, care and sympathy to the patient

  • Develop and periodically review policies that govern the practice of assistants and nurse practioners in the facility

  • Put in place client feedback mechanism and track its implementation

    Radiology

  • Design and implement an appropriate patient flow system in the department

  • Avail sufficient and qualified personnel in the department

  • Setting the standard of care in the department and assume responsibility for its implementation

  • Assuring quality of Radiology service in the hospital

  • Put in place appropriate radiology service structure in consultation with the Medical Director and Technical Advisor

  • Develop appropriate monitoring tools to track key outputs of Radiology service

  • Build a unique culture of Bethzatha which focuses on respect, care and sympathy to the patient

  • Put in place client feedback mechanism and track its implementation

  • Make sure appropriate policies, procedures and SOPs available in order to provide standard care to the patient

    Laboratory

  • Design and implement an appropriate work flow system in the department in consultation with BAML

  • Assure sufficient and qualified personnel assigned in the department throughout the cycle in consultation with BAML

  • Setting the standard of care in the department and set clear understanding with BAML

  • Assuring quality of Laboratory service in the hospital

    Health Programs function

  • The deputy medical director will be a focal person for all health programs (ART, TB, PMTCT, PICT etc)implemented in the hospital

  • Will make sure periodic reports delivered on time

  • Assure all supplies and drugs for all respective programs are managed as per standard

  • Revise the contracts from time to time and give feedback to the management with respect to cost effectiveness and operational efficiency

    Training and Staff Development

  • The Deputy Medical Director assures every health professional participates in Continuing Professional Development(CPD) program as per the requirement of FMHACA

  • The Deputy Medical Director participates in the development, organization, and delivery of training programs and shares educational resources (books, periodicals, articles) with other professional staff members.

  • Monitors the training and career development of the entire medical team to keep the standard of the Hospital up to date.

  • Make the necessary arrangement with local universities to use bethzatha hospital facility to participate in Fellowship programs.

    Health Promotion and Communication

  • The deputy medical director coordinate development and dissemination of health information materials Leaflets, posters, video etc

  • Will be responsible for Coordination of onsite client education

  • The Deputy Medical Director devises health Promotion Strategy which focuses on Prevention of common infectious and Non-Communicable diseases]

    Job Requirements

    Education/Qualification:

  • MPH

  • MSC or

  • BSc Degree in Nursing

    Knowledge and understanding

  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance and effective systems of medical management such as job planning, appraisal and clinical assessment
    Other administrative perspectives such as finance and HR management

    Work Experience

  • 3 – 5 years in clinical leadership role

  • At least 3 years of managerial role
    Involvement in improving infection control

    Personal Qualities

  • Good organizational skills

  • Good team leadership skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staffs at all level

  • Effective motivator with strong influencing skill and personal credibility

  • Ability to analyze complex issues and identify potential solutions

  • A clear commitment to deliver quality and patient focused service

  • Participatory management style
