IntroductionThe BBC is an international multimedia broadcaster on radio, TV, online and social networks with a weekly global audience of 320 million. As part of a historical and exciting expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service is increasing its digital and TV operation for the Somali audience.
Responsibilities
BBC Somali thinks mobile first and you will be expected to use your extensive knowledge about the user experience to deliver exciting, visual journalism.
The successful candidate will produce shareable content for online and social, including text stories, picture stories and videos. You will identify the latest apps, trends and digital story treatments which BBC Somali should be using.
As a senior journalist you will take a lead around editorial problems, developing realistic, alternative strategies and approaches for yourself and your team. Line management duties will also be part of your role, including the development of staff.
Qualifications
Significant recent experience as a digital journalist both in originating ideas and material and in editing the work of others.
A full command and up to date knowledge of spoken and written Somali as a first language.
A good knowledge of English including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
Excellent news and editorial judgment.
Ability to supervise the journalistic work of others and manage staff including assisting in their training and development.
A good understanding of how to manage and motivate others.
Demonstrable track record of imaginative and advance understanding of social media and mobile platforms.

Responsibilities
To create digital content in multiple formats, text, images, audio, video and to treat and promote digital content on our various websites and social platforms to service the needs of our audience.
To produce accurate, informed and interesting news and current affairs, social and cultural content to the highest standards.
To report, present, research, write, translate, edit and adapt text stories, video or audio material for audiences on digital platforms and radio; good on-screen presence and broadcast voice an advantage.
To create original digital content for all multimedia output
To liaise closely with other BBC Africa language team members, Newsgathering, reporters and producers across BBC departments to develop originally content.
To be responsible for thinking through and around editorial problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.
To offer ideas for programme content; to suggest new angles on existing stories and to put forward stories not yet covered.
To be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required. To be able to freshen a story and write interesting headlines.
To be responsible for studio production as well as live social production.
Qualifications
Full command in Somali language (written and spoken).
Fluent in English and able to communicate effectively.
Proven track record of coming up with ideas and seeing them through to delivery, ideally in a creative or media environment
An interest in the developments in the digital market in the Somali area, in East Africa, in Africa and the world.
A good knowledge of what works on digital platforms for the target market.
Proven track record of producing quality content, and proven editorial judgement.
Ability to create content with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media.
An excellent broadcast voice and good reporting and presentation skills.
Ability to also script write,
edit and produce audio/radio content.
Relevant experience as a journalist, both in originating material and editing the work of others, is highly desirable.

BBC Senior Broadcast Journalist (Social Media) Careers Opportunities in Kenya
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a fresh and innovative creative approach to curating, publishing and editing stories for BBC Great Lakes social media platforms.
Creating content for social media such as videos, gifs, pictures, Facebook lives, Instagram Stories etc.
Managing the interactive offer across all social media platforms.
Test and provide feedback on new social tools and train staff where necessary
You’ll be working with colleagues in the regional service but you’ll also be expected to produce stories that have global and pan African appeal
Qualifications
Excellent written and spoken Kinyarwanda and Kirundi language skills.
Fluent understanding of English.
Experience of creating high quality copy and create assets (images, gifs, video) that can be used across social media channels .
An understanding of the broader digital landscape in Africa and a proven interest in keeping up to date with developments in social media.
Strong editorial judgment and a solid understanding of journalistic ethics and libel laws.
Proven record of using social media effectively to engage audiences.
