Job Description:

The Houseparent(s) will be responsible for creating a happy and nurturing environment in which pupils can fully enjoy their experience of boarding at The Banda. They should work closely with the pastoral team to ensure that this ethos is promoted.

Responsibilities

  • To act in ‘loco parentis’ and therefore accept overall responsibility for the welfare, health,safety and pastoral care of the pupils in the house.
  • Ensuring that the Boarding House is compliant with UK’s National Minimum Standards and to oversee boarding inspections, when necessary, according to these standards.
  • Controlling the budget for the Boarding House.
  • Regular review of marketing opportunities for the Boarding House, and working with the
    Head to ensure development and progress in this area of the school.
  • Organisation of boarding routines and communication of rotas to relevant staff.
  • Regular meetings with staff who carry out duties at the Boarding House.
  • Developing close links with parents, ensuring regular communication and/or meetings
    where necessary.
  • Meeting regularly with the Director Pastoral to review all matters affecting the welfare of pupils in the Boarding House.
  • Working closely with the School Nurse to ensure adequate medical provision for those
    pupils who require it.
  • Co-ordinating a response to a pupil’s problems, working closely with relevant Tutors and staff members and, where necessary, the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Keeping the school management system, iSAMS, up to date with relevant pastoral
    comments on boarding pupils.
  • Maintaining high standards of discipline, academic progress, manners and dress amongst
    the boarders.

    Qualifications

  • Love working with children and be able to put their needs first.
  • Be reliable, caring and warm individuals who will go the extra mile for children in their care.
  • Be willing to be on call in the ‘small hours’ if they are needed.
  • Be a qualified first aider, or be willing to be trained to an enhanced level.
  • Be willing to join in the life of a thriving, busy and successful prep school in a beautiful location.
  • Possess a degree or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Have experience of working in British Curriculum Schools.
  • Be able to build good relationships with parents and families.
  • Be able to build good relationships with colleagues.
  • Be able to use initiative, show flexibility and be adaptable.
  • Be punctual and use time appropriately.
  • Be a good communicator with adults and children.
  • Show good organisational skills.
  • Show a competent level of written English.
  • Present a clean Certificate of Good Conduct or International Child Protection Certificate
    (ICPC)
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupils.
  • Keep up to date with educational developments and be committed to continual personal and professional development.

    Banda School Science Teacher Vacancies in Nairobi

    Job Description

    Each academic department is led by a Head of Department, who is responsible for the syllabus
    and the overseeing of teaching in that subject.
    Subject teachers are sometimes involved in one or more departments and their role is to provide specialist subject teaching from Years 5 to Year 8.

    Responsibilities

  • To take responsibility for planning and implementing appropriate work programmes for all pupils in the designated class, within the framework of school policies.
  • To support and drive the ethos, aims and values of the school
  • To maintain and use assessment records and report on pupils’ progress to staff, and to
    parents and carers, in accordance with school policy.
  • To liaise with the Head of Department and other members of the department concerning
    curriculum, schemes of work, teaching methods etc.
  • To follow and implement school policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that the learning experience matches the individual needs of the pupils in your class – giving each child an opportunity to achieve to the best of his/her capability.
  • To evaluate your teaching and use this evaluation to improve and develop teaching
    strategies.
  • To make appropriate educational provision for pupils with learning difficulties and for those children with EAL, with support from The Banda’s Learning Support Department.
  • To create a secure, happy and stimulating environment, maintaining the highest standards of organisation and discipline.
  • To provide well-planned, creative and engaging learning experiences for pupils.
  • To maintain a high standard of display and a stimulating environment, in the classroom and
    in other areas of the school.
  • To liaise with parents concerning pupils' academic progress and attend Parents' Meetings to discuss the academic progress of pupils.
  • To write detailed reports on each pupil when required.
  • To perform duties, as requested by the Headmistress, for supervising the pupils outside the classroom e.g. Lunch/break.

    Qualifications

  • Possess a degree or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Have experience of working in British Curriculum Schools.
  • Possess the desire to be fully involved in all aspects of the life of a leading preparatory school.
  • Be pro-active as a part of The Banda School team.
  • Possess a love of Science teaching to children of all abilities and passion for the
    development of academic excellence.
  • Be able to build good relationships with parents and families.
  • Be able to build good relationships with colleagues.
  • Be punctual and use time appropriately.
  • Be a good communicator with adults and children.
  • Show good organisational skills.
  • Show a competent level of written English.
  • Be experienced in using ICT in teaching, as a tool for research and for communication.
    Familiarity with iPads and iTunesU is an advantage.
  • Present a clean Certificate of Good Conduct or International Child Protection Certificate
    (ICPC)
