Job DefinitionTo assess and teach pupils with SEN at The Banda School in order to promote genuine interest and enthusiasm for learning and to strive for a high standard of achievement for all pupils within
the school. To liaise with staff when identifying and monitoring pupils with SEN or those that
require additional support.
Responsibilities associated with the post include:Teaching & LearningTo manage pupil learning through effective teaching in accordance with the Department’s
schemes of work and policies.
To use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular
objectives and the range of pupil needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.
To work with the Head of Learning Development, subject teachers and support staff (including prior discussion and joint planning) in order to maximise effectiveness within lessons.
To guide and support other teachers through inclusion.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting, and Accountability
To teach SEN pupils within the school in order to monitor their progress within the curriculum and assist the Head of Learning Development in the screening, assessment and review process.
To assist the Head of Learning Development in developing and updating IEPs, to use assessment procedures to monitor pupil progress, help set targets, and to use outcomes to inform oral and written feedback to pupils, parents and staff.
To assess pupils’ day-to-day work systematically and use the results to inform future planning, teaching and curricular development.
To write School reports, as and when required, for Learning Development pupils.
Subject Knowledge & Understanding
To have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the current curriculum,
programmes of study and specifications for Common Entrance courses.
To keep up-to-date with research and developments in pedagogy in the subject and
curriculum areas by attending INSET training.
Professional Standards & Development
To be familiar with the School and SEN Department handbooks and support all the School’s policies.
To establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues and associate staff.
To undertake any reasonable task as directed by the Head of Learning Development.
Additional Duties
General
To liaise with subject teachers and Heads of Department regarding SEN students’ progress made, challenges arising, and any difficulties with accessing work and/or resources.
To attend Learning Development and year group meetings, staff meetings and parent/teacher meetings when requested.
If required, provide cover teaching within the School.
To be available to act as an amanuensis (reader/scribe) during assessments and examinations.
Be available to carry out screening tests on new pupils.
To carry out supervisory duties as assigned.
Person Specification
The Lower Key Stage 2 Teacher needs to:
Be a fully qualified teacher with a valid TSC number and Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 training and experience
Have experience of working in British Curriculum schools
Be able to build good relationships with pupils, parents and families
Be able to build good relationships with colleagues
Be able to create a stimulating and engaging learning environment
Be able to use initiative, show flexibility and be adaptable
Be pro-active as a part of The Banda School staff team and possess the desire to be fully involved in all aspects of life in a leading preparatory school
Be punctual and use preparation time appropriately
Be a good communicator with adults and children
Show good organisational skills
Show a competent level of written English
Be able to use ICT in teaching. Familiarity with using interactive screens and iPads is an advantage
Present a clean Police Clearance Certificate
Safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupils
Keep up to date with educational developments in the UK
Be a motivator
