External Vacancy AnnouncementThe Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.
The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).
AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Health Assistant Researcher II working as Biorepository Technician under Central Laboratory Directorate
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Perform routine biorepository tasks to ensure the proper collection, processing, storing and distribution of biological specimens.
Key Responsibilities
Organize the freezers per sample category and research projects
Perform inventory of samples in regular schedules
Monitor temperatures of refrigerators, freezers and Nitrogen tanks.
Maintain freezers and Nitrogen tanks logs and records accordingly.
Respond to freezer temperature alarms. Assess the situation and determine if specimens should be moved and if freezer repairs are necessary.
Organize; create sample batches, print labels and label tubes and input specimens into the PACS system ensuring all information is accurate and complete.
Organize freezer and refrigerator cleaning campaigns
Monitor the appropriate transport of samples in and out of AHRI
Supervise the sample disposal process
Identify samples with biosecurity importance
and secure them as per international standards
Establish Bio bank
Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
Manage specific project and/or field activities might be required
Perform laboratory or field activities as might be assigned
Represent the directorate on admin related issues
Job Requirements
MSc/ BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/Microbiology/Molecular Biology or related AND 2 years of experience for BSc or 0 years of experience of MSc
Specialized Skills
Experience in the handling and safety of biohazardous materials.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions; keen attention to detail in order to question and identify problems that should arise.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others.
Dedicated to making a difference and to work well in a group.
Efficient in team building, laboratory management and quality management systems
BSC planning and reporting skill
Requirements
A high level of skill in BSC Planning and reporting
Excellent Skill on project management
Excellent Skill on administrative task management
Excellent Research and Communication Skills
Good general work habits and people skills
Committed to the values of integrity, accountability, transparency, and scientific rigor
