ANAW Chief Operations Officer (COO) Job in Kenya
Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW) is an indigenous, Pan-African, hands-on non-governmental animal welfare organization, registered in Kenya with the mission to promote animal welfare, wildlife and environmental conservation seeking to employ a qualified Chief Operations Officer (COO).
Main duties and responsibilities
Finance and Budgeting
Oversees budgeting and organization planning
Prepare and present financial analysis and analytics
Ensure all the Organizations financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation
Prepare and present financial reports and projections
Develop and update finance policies and procedures
Leadership & Management:
Leading and developing the organization team towards achievement of the organizational strategy.
Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
Ensure effective systems are in place to manage the organization, track progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents
Ensure effective organization operations, ICT, programs and resources mobilization.
Ensure effective management of Human resources including recruitment, staff development, retention and motivation of talented staff members.
Fundraising & Communications
Identify and support resource mobilization and fundraising initiatives.
Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion while simultaneously retiring dependence.
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities
Oversee preparation of periodic E newsletter/magazine and send to all the stakeholders on timely basis ensuring accuracy, focus and content.
Functional and programs effectiveness
Delegates to and manages heads of departments.
Integrates departmental teams.
Engages stakeholders at all levels (primarily internal) to optimize internal supply chain.
Develops Managers of Managers and specialists under supervision.
Selects potential Managers of Managers to sustain pipeline.
Networking & Collaboration
Actively engage and energize organization volunteers, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
Risk Management
Analyze risks and determines strategies for managing them and ensuring that assets are
adequately safeguarded and maintained.
Other
Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director or as dictated by unforeseen operational and external realities.
Minimum Qualification, experience and competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
Master of Business Administration degree or equivalent
Professional qualification in CPA/ACCA will be an added advantage.
At least 10 years’ experience out of which 5 years must be at a management level
Thorough commitment to organizations Mission
Track record of effectively leading regionally and/or nationally scaling up performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
Ability to work with Senior managers and build effective work relationships with the team.
Leadership, coaching and relationship management experience; senior management experience and talent management.
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
