Amref Health Africa was officially founded in 1957 to deliver mobile health services and to provide mission hospitals with surgical support.

A medical radio network was developed to coordinate the service, and provide communication.

Main Purpose of Job

To Support provision of high quality HIV Testing services and work towards achieving global and national targets of the 90-90-90 strategies.

Principal Responsibilities

Key Area Activity

  • Mobilization Create demand for HTS by conducting health talks at the waiting
    bays and thorough eligibility screening.
    HIV Testing and counselling
  • Ensure the Provider-initiated HIV Testing and Counselling is offered at all service points (i.e OPD,TB ,VCT, etc) with total
    coverage and thorough eligibility screening to identify eligible client for testing in the facility.
  • Partner notification services(PNS)/Family
    testing
  • Ensure proper planning and implementation of high yield strategies i.e HIV testing services for families and sexual
    partners/contacts of people living with HIV (Partner Notification services (PNS) and Family and Partner Testing and Counselling.
  • Integration Ensure integration of other health services in provision of HTS
    services Identification of men and
    young people
  • Take lead in mapping areas of HTS expansion within the facility catchment area to help in identification of men and young people.
  • Referrals Develop referral charts/referral dairies and coordinate intra and
    inter facilities referrals.
  • Linkage Implement strategies for referrals and linkages of newly diagnosed
  • HIV infected clients between HTS points and the HIV clinics (CCC).
  • Documentation and Reports
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of HTS activities and compilation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports (project and
    MOH reports)

    Key Ares Activity

  • Develop individual work plans to enhance monitoring of performance
  • Compliance Ensure compliance to Project and national policies i.e. national
    testing algorithms, standard operating procedures and job aids.
  • Quality assurance Participate in internal and external quality assurance measures in
    HTS i.e. PT, counselling supervision.
  • Commodity management Manage allocated HTS commodities, ensure there are no testing
    interruptions
    and ensure quality HTS service provision.
  • Mentorship Mentor and offer one on one support supervision to other HTS
    providers.
  • Project and MOH meetings Participate in all meetings called upon by facility or project
    management.

    Required Qualifications

    Minimum Education - (academic and professional)

  • Diploma in counselling or any other health related field
  • Certificate in HTS
  • Training in provision of HIV Testing Services ((HTS)
  • Training in HIV /AIDS prevention, care and treatment including HIV testing
  • Registered with relevant professional body
  • Valid current practicing license

    Experience

  • At least one year experience in a HTS setting
  • Knowledge of the relevant MOH reporting tools
  • Experience in Elicitation, tracing and testing of contacts from the index client
  • Experience in working in informal settlement in a similar position will be an added advantage

  • 6 Hours of Work
  • Normal working hours as per Amref guidelines and regulations. Job holder may be required to work outside normal working hours due to the nature of the work in general.
