Job DescriptionAmref Health Africa is an African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa envision to bringing lasting health change for Africain more than 30 countries across the continent.
With a focus on women and children, the organization strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, water and sanitation and health systems strengthening.
Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations.
Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Project Assistant based in Semera, Afar Regional State and will report to Project manager.
Job SummaryAmref Health Africa in Ethiopia planned to start two years Project with title ‘’ Agricultural and livestock production at community level to improve the nutritional status of Afar's vulnerable population “which will be implemente in three weredas of Afar región.
Job Responsibility:
Assist in the preparation plans together with partners and submit to the project manager.
Assist in the provision of training to , district health officers,
Support the supervision program with regional and district health office and ensure the supervision is conducted in line with the set program
Facilitate logistic, financial payment to participants
Support in the organization of community mobilization and ensure the delivery of the project activities
Support the organization of review meeting with partners and community representatives
Conduct regular supportive supervision on nutrition and livelihood project collaboration with partners
Timely update the program progresses in the project area to the project manager
Train women groups from community on preparation and maintenance, traditional and non-costly methods of disease and pest control,
income generation from the sale of surplus production.
Train agricultural cooperatives on income generation from local area by provision of seeds and farming tools
Train poultry cooperatives to enhance the knowledge of local community after need assessment is conducted
Participate With regional and district Partner on Establishment of community gardens with diversification of crops for food production
Train CHV and development agents in the promotion of nutrition-oriented agriculture
Train and support women groups for the processing and trading of milk
Participate on the Establishment of nutritional stores "Ballina" managed by women groups
For monitoring and evaluation, ensure that community mobilizers are adequately trained in data collection interpretation of information received from the beneficiaries.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor (prepare donor visit, quality audit, outcome assessment and so on).
Job Requirements
Diploma /degree in Agricultural economics, General agriculture ,Health or related field
At least three years of demonstrated experience in implementing on Nutrition and Livelihood activities
Experience in pastoralist area specially Afar is an asset
Skills and Attitudes
Ability and self-discipline to work with minimum or no supervision
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & Written)
Computer literacy (Ms. Word, Access, Power point, & MS Outlook) and the Internet
Able to interact and manage people of divers cultural backgrounds
Can foster an open trusting work environment
Ability to work effectively in a team-driven environment
Accepts accountability of work assigned and performed
Supports a customer-centered approach to programs, services, and systems
Willing to travel to the field extensively
Terms of employment: One year with possible extension.
