American International Health Alliance NGO Program Officer - Biomedical Interventions Jobs in Kenya
Under the direction of the Technical Director, the Program Officer, Biomedical Interventions, will be responsible for providing technical guidance and coordination of the required package of biomedical and clinical interventions on the PEPFAR‐
funded DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS‐free, Mentored, and Safe) project in Siaya and Migori Counties.
The Program Officer, Biomedical Interventions will provide technical assistance in evidence‐based biomedical interventions such as HIV testing services, contraceptive method mix, Post Rape Care management, PEP, PrEP and other required biomedical services proven successful amongst adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and provide biomedical services technical assistance through trainings,
mentorship and support to staff and lay workers supporting the project.TA will focus on areas such as HIV testing services, contraceptive method mix, Post Rape Care management, PEP and PrEP.
Work to build the knowledge and capacity of affiliated partner organizations and groups such as local school faculty, civil society organizations (CSO), community‐based
organizations (CBO), and engaged lay workers in available options around HIV
prevention, testing, treatment and counselling.
Coordinate biomedical service trainings alongside AIHA program and technical
coordinators.
Ensure that the AGYW in the Safe Spaces (in the community) are empowered through
sensitization and uptake of biomedical interventions.
Conduct site‐level support supervision and mentorship to ensure biomedical service
interventions are being implemented per intervention SOPs and in a quality manner.
Support full HIV Care and Treatment Cascade for the AGYW who sero‐convert while in
the DREAMS program.
Support in overseeing biomedical intervention monitoring and evaluation (M&E)
activities to measure progress and to systematically assess whether intended
objectives are being achieved.
Support in guidance of documentation while ensuring data is properly captured and
reported per donor intervention and donor guidance.
Work with the CHMTs, SCHMTs, facility in charges and health care workers to provide
quality biomedical services through operational planning meetings, data review meetings, trainings, on job mentorship and conducting facility level CMEs.
Take a lead role in the documentation of best practices, challenges and success stories.
Work alongside AIHA staff and partners to develop and maintain program workplans,
making changes and updates as appropriate.
Assist in the development, editing, finalization, and packaging of program curriculum, reports and materials.
Keep up to date on all DREAMS program activities and maintain close contact with
other DREAMS partners and collaborators as necessary.
Represent AIHA at U.S. Government implementing partner (IP) meetings, reporting
meetings and other donor and stakeholder’s meetings as required.
Serve as an information source on program policies, procedures, and administration
guidelines.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
MSc. or MA. in Social sciences, Public Health or, Community health with
three (3) years’ relevant work experience, or BS or BA in Social Sciences PublicHealth or community health with atleastfive (5) years’relevant work experience; DREAMS biomedical service intervention program experience required
Diploma in clinical medicine, nursing, medical laboratory services or public
health registered with the relevant statutory bodies in Kenya will be an added advantage
Extensive knowledge of or experience in program management and support procedures with a focus on PEPFAR’s DREAMS package of interventions
Commitment to understanding and responding to the most urgent needs and rights of vulnerable adolescent and youth and in regards to HIV/AIDS and SGBV
Familiarity with the most up to date guidelines and procedures related to
HIV testing services, STI screening and management, clinical management of survivors of sexual violence, PrEP and contraceptive method mix
Proven ability to implement multidimensional projects with a focus on
biomedical service interventions and HIV/AIDS, with a focus on areas such as HIV prevention, testing, care and treatment, STI screening and
management, SGBV, PrEP, and contraceptive mix
Experience with U.S. Government donor compliance and reporting
Ability to develop and maintain close relationships with various stakeholders
Ability to work effectively with diverse co‐workers and project participants
Self‐starter and strong multi‐tasking and problem solving skills
Must be very dependable and detail oriented
Effective and diplomatic communicator at all levels
Personal and professional maturity and judgment
Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
English and Swahili fluency is essential, Luo fluency will be an added
advantage
