Job Summary

The job holder will work in the Social Work Department and will be required to assist Students in their personal, social, and academic development. S/he will also help students to Overcome their problems and cope with tough situations by providing a safe, confidential, and encouraging environment in which to contemplate their emotional state.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and review of Standard Operating Procedures for counseling.

  • Listen to students’ concerns regarding their social, academic, and personal circumstances.

  • Encourage students to share their emotions and experiences.

  • Empower students to develop structured solutions to their problems.

  • Guide students through challenges such as peer pressure, family problems, and personal and health issues that may be interfering with their academic performance.

  • Have regular life skill sessions with children.

  • Support other school staff members in dealing with difficult students/clients.

  • Follow up with students/clients on adherence to counseling therapy.

  • Examine issues including substance abuse, aging, bullying, anger management, careers, depression, relationships, LGBTQ issues, self-image, stress, and suicide within the school.

  • Refer students to psychologists, psychiatrists, and other healthcare providers as needed.

  • Collaborate with the School Social Worker to work with relatives in the counseling process
    where necessary.

  • Organize group counseling activities and sessions e.g., for adolescents, addicts, etc.

  • Participate in training programs in the school.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Counselling/Psychology or related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience.

  • Prior working experience in a school setting will be an added advantage.

  • Valid registration, retention, and practice licenses by the relevant professional body are required.

    Key Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of counseling models, methods, and resources.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • High level of personal integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task.

  • Excellent Listening Skills
