SummaryThe Deputy Head Teacher will ensure that The Amazima School (Primary)’s aims and objectives are met through managing teaching staff and progress in student academics.
QualificationsMust be a committed Christian who is in full agreement with the Statement of Faith of The Amazima School.
Professional and personal references must demonstrate observed manifestation of godly character and spiritual maturity.
Must be committed to the mission of The Amazima School.
Willing to make a minimum three year commitment.
Preferred a minimum of a master’s degree from a college or university in educational leadership, school administration, or curriculum/instruction.
Must have experience in school administration and management of educational organizations/ people.
Preferred experience living or working in a third world country.
Classical, Christian teaching experience preferred.
If married, candidate’s marriage and parenting must demonstrate Christian character and maturity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Personal
Sets an example of servant leadership: works to reflect a Biblically-integrated life; speaks to edify and encourage, and demonstrates faithful obedience to God’s laws
Teaching Staff
Trains, orients, and supervises all teaching staff and assistants.
Ensures all teachers stay updated with attendance, academics, and discipline on PowerSchool
Communicates with the Head Teacher regarding academic, curricular, and personnel issues.
Assists Head Teacher in conducting regular faculty meetings.
Conducts regular classroom observations.
Ensures all faculties receive ongoing in-service training (African, Christian, Classical, Cross-cultural, and Pedagogical).
Makes extracurricular assignments for teaching staff and assistants (preps, detention, etc.)
Works closely with the Department Heads to provide regular formal and informal evaluations for teaching staff and assistants. Information and feedback from the evaluations should then be shared with the Head Teacher.
Curriculum
Assists teachers to create all curriculum needed for the school (final approval by the Head Teacher).
Collaborates with the Head Teacher to monitor the implementation of the curriculum, researching and recommending improvements and changes, and documenting curriculum guides and any accreditation requirements.
Assists Department Heads with textbook and supply purchasing (final approval by Head Teacher).
Coordinates the administration of annual achievement testing.
Coordinates with Learning Specialists to ensure teachers are tailoring instructional interventions for any student with specific needs.
Students
Evaluates admission screening and school records to determine appropriateness of enrolling students.
Establishes and maintains high standards of student academic conduct.
Coordinates scheduling of field trips
Monitors student progress of each student. Interacts regularly with House Parents and Director of Student Life regarding each student.
Prepares academic schedules and individual students schedules. Coordinates student elective selection in the scheduling process.
Perform any other official duties as assigned by the supervisor.
NOTE: You will report to the Head teacher through the Deputy Head teacher
Qualifications
A minimum qualification of a degree in Education from an accredited Institute of Higher education
Five (5) years’ working experience at a managerial level preferably in a similar organizational setting
Must have experience in administration and management of organizations/people
Must be a committed Christian who is in full agreement with the Statement of Faith of The Amazima School.
Professional and personal references must demonstrate the observed manifestation of godly character and spiritual maturity.
Must be committed to the mission of The Amazima School and willing to make a long-term commitment to the job.
Must have a thorough understanding of support for the classical, Christian, and community approach to education adopted by The Amazima School.
Must be in agreement with The Amazima School Policies and Procedures Handbook, and have some familiarity with Amazima Ministries International.
Must have read and understood/be in agreement with Kisses from Katie, When Helping Hurts, African Friends and Money Matters, and Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning.
Classical, Christian teaching experience preferred.
If married, the candidate’s marriage and parenting must demonstrate Christian character and maturity
