We are searching for an energetic, innovative manager to lead the actuarial team supporting the geographies centered in Johannesburg.
The role reports to the MEA Chief Actuary.
Job Description
Prepare quarterly statutory reserve estimates, including working with Head of Actuarial Function, as per local reporting requirements;
Produce US GAAP reserve estimates, as per corporate reporting requirements;
Work closely with the business and underwriting teams to help drive profitability and growth.
Implement usage of Apollo, understand the tool, its requirement and re-design actuarial process accordingly if required.
Collaborate with Finance Managers and assist on the production of legal entity and production office loss ratios for business planning purposes, capital modelling, etc,
Streamline data production and reconciliations
Assist in Asset Liability Management processes by calculating expected cash flows
Work closely with Claims, Reinsurance and Underwriting teams to understand how reserving practices, treaty set up and business changes impact our business
Provide insightful analytics to key stakeholders across the business.
Coordinate and ensure consistency in approach and execution of reserve reviews including data production, modeling and presentation of results across geographies
Support in any project or ad-hoc requirements as needed
Qualifications & Skills:
Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related areas required
Nearly or newly qualified actuary
5-10 years of working experience in the P&C insurance industry. Life experience beneficial.
Excellent analytical, quantitative, and communication skills
Team Player – ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to gather inputs and align objectives and recommendations through quantitative analysis
Experienced in people’s management;
Ability to navigate through complexity.
Critical thinking, execution skills
