Job summary:

Reporting to the Housekeeping Manager, the Laundry supervisor job exists to provide supervision of laundry and Tailoring services including monitoring of Laundry procedures and operations. E.g operations of washing and drying machines to clean, dry, press and fold cloth-ware including provision of new linen for patient care and staff uniforms at Tenwek Hospital.

Responsibilities

Prepare work-plans and schedules, allocate work to laundry staff and set laundry production processes in place to ensure provision of clean linen for different wards and departments of the hospital.

Determine spotting procedures and proper solvents, detergents and other cleaning materials based on fabric and stain types in the laundry unit of the hospital.

Monitor the performance of Laundry staff while performing other special or peculiar garment maintenance or garment care according to need or manufacturers’ specifications in the laundry unit of the hospital.

Check and issue requisitions of hospital linen using the Hospital management Information system in consultation with the Head of Housekeeping.

Allocate duties to Tailors as guided by Housekeeping manager depending on the needs of other departments of the hospital. He/she should ensure to receive and record all linen made by the tailors while ensuring good storage.

Liaise with the tailors and dressmakers to repair and mend torn or replace missing parts of garments during and after laundering in the laundry unit of the hospital.

Maintain washing and drying machines and other laundry equipment, or report their breakdown to Maintenance

and to Head of Housekeeping for repair and maintenance in the hospital.

Ensure that necessary policies and procedures are in place that guides the Laundry and Tailoring operations.

Maintain proper records required in Laundry and Tailoring units including but not limited to; Linen Inventory sheets, Staff Attendance book, Laundry Hand over book, work order records book, Tailor’s records book, Uniform Issuance book.

Work together with other Housekeeping and Laundry staff in their duties to enhance team work and harmony.

To perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma in Hospitality Management, or Housekeeping and Laundry or equivalent.

Minimum of 2 years previous in laundry supervisory role or similar.

Knowledge of laundry operations and equipment.

Strong leadership and management skills.

Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.

Excellent problem-solving skills.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Born-again Christian with good standing and strong Christian values
