Job Description: Quality assurance officer is responsible to monitor, implement and maintain Laboratory quality management system QMS at Tenwek Hospital Laboratory in order to meet standards in accordance with accreditation and regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

Development, implementation and revision of the Quality Management System.

Planning and carrying out internal audits of the Quality Management system

Identification and addressing of complaints, non-conformances and corrective actions

To interact with the accreditation bodies on behalf of the organization.

Planning, conducting and facilitating quality assurance training workshops and seminars.

Scheduling and organizing management review meetings in consultation with the Laboratory Manager

Compilation and distribution performance reports for Management review

Select and monitor all referral laboratories for quality of service

Promotion of awareness of users’ needs and requirements throughout the laboratory organization.

Perform trend analysis for the identified gaps and the raised complaints.

Report to management on the laboratory policy, objectives, and resources, on performance of the QMS and any needed improvement.

Draw up a yearly service and calibration schedule for instruments, as well as audits, management meetings, safety and QC meetings.

Ensure that minutes and reports of quality management review and Quality meetings as well as internal and external audits are kept.

Ensure that any action identified during these meetings and from audit reports is implemented within the agreed time limit.

Ensure IQC and EQA are performed as per standard operating procedures, documented and corrective actions implemented where necessary.

Reporting to Lab Director on Quality issues.

Ensure that staff performs the required daily, monthly, yearly maintenance of Instruments/Equipment.

Ensure that staff

perform the required daily tasks e.g. checks temperatures, bench cleaning, centrifuge decontamination etc.

Ensure that the environment with respect to temperature and humidity is controlled.

Ensure that all complaints and suggestions are collected from the suggestion boxes appropriately.

Keep an up-to-date list of all equipment used in the Laboratory together with the calibration status of each instrument.

Identify quality related training needs amongst staff and liaise with management to facilitate implementation.

Organize in-house trainings and maintain records of all such training.

Communicate with accrediting bodies to schedule assessments. Coordinate with hospital management to ensure all pre-assessment requirements are addressed.

Qualifications & Experience

Higher National Diploma or above in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.

Registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board with a valid practicing license

Training in Quality Management system, GCLP and Supervisory skills

Must have worked in ISO Accredited laboratory

Trained ISO 15189:2022 Internal audit, Implementation

Ability to manage time and provide leadership

Observe Laboratory work ethic.

5+ Years Experience in a busy Lab environment
