Aga Khan University Physician Scientist Jobs in Nairobi

The position is in the AKU Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health embedded in population health sciences. The right candidate will have a background that demonstrates interest, engagement and success in research with commitment to a mission driven and multidisciplinary collaborative approach.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Physician Scientist will play a critical role in contributing to the mandate of the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, AKU, in advancing women, children and adolescent health research and the application of research to practice and policy.

Other roles will entail supporting development of national, regional and global alignments and partnerships that advance the priority areas.

Although the successful Physician Scientist will be expected to commit most of his/her time in research (80% time), continuity with clinical services provision (20% time) will be expected of the successful candidate.

S/he will have overall reporting to the Director CoE-WCH but be accountable for clinical productivity to the Chair of the relevant clinical department.

A letter of Expectation will be jointly developed annually to clearly define work plans.

Qualification & Relevant Experience

The successful candidate for this position will have:

MBChB or Med degree in clinical sciences or equivalent with demonstrated scientific publication track record.

Post graduate degree in Epidemiology or Clinical epidemiology (eg MSc or MPH - majoring in epidemiology)

Demonstrated interest in an academic career path

Minimum of 2 years practice experience in Paediatrics and child health, OBS/Gynaecology or Family Medicine.

Other requirements will include ability to interact productively in a multicultural environment; good analytical, planning and organizational skills

Proficiency in Ms Office and other statistical software and good scientific writing skills.
