Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide technical support to ongoing projects at the Institute for Human Development that apply qualitative research methods. Responsibilities will include transcription, coding transcripts, report writing and contribution to scientific writing for qualitative studies.

The post holder will be stationed at the IHD offices in Nairobi, but will
support qualitative projects implemented by the department across Kenya and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Data Management – Organize data for transcriptions, cleaning and coding;

  • Reporting – Support with scientific writing i.e. project reports and manuscripts from qualitative studies;

  • Communication – Support with the packaging of information for dissemination to different audience including policy briefs and presentations;

  • Ensure proper storage of all records and raw data;

  • Ensure appropriate back-up of study data; and

  • Lead in analysis of qualitative data.

    Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Social Sciences, Public Health and other allied professions;

  • A strong research background is desirable;

  • Minimum 2 years-experience coordinating or supporting qualitative research studies;

  • Proven academic writing skills with publications in qualitative research;

  • Experience working in the field of public health, early childhood, mental health, adolescent health, and/or disabilities is an advantage;

  • Proficiency in coding and codebook development;

  • Proficiency in analysis skills (with expertise in qualitative approaches);

  • Proficiency in using qualitative analysis software e.g. NVivo or others; and

  • Demonstrable ability to document research study processes and outcomes, compile donor reports and other research outputs.
