Our clients include World University Service of Canada (WUSC), UNICEF, IOM, UNDP and the MasterCard Foundation.
Currently AVF is partnering with WUSC and Windle International in Kakuma to implement the media component of the LEAP Project in Kalobeyei settlement. Due to this, AVF aims to recruit field staff for the following roles and urges all candidates that qualify to apply.
Objectives of the position:
The Community Social Worker (Mentor) will be a critical member of AVF’s WUSC Project team reporting to the AVF Research Officer. The counsellor shall work with the Listening Group Facilitator to mentor and counsel different groups of boys and girls in Kalobeyei settlement and help them to develop appropriate mental processing capabilities while providing preventive services to them.
The Community Social Workers (Mentors) shall maintain a trustworthy presence among our program’s beneficiaries in Kalobeyei settlement. There will be one listening group every week and the Community Mentor shall work with the Listening Group Facilitator to mentor participants with supervision from the Field Officer.
Responsibilities for Community Social Worker (Mentor)
Support the maintenance of an effective and confidential case management system.
Ensure provision of professional and confidential psychosocial services
to survivors of Gender Based Violence and other beneficiaries through a survivor-centered case management approach.
Develop professional, effective and appropriate Gender Based Violence psychosocial programming, including direct individual and group counseling support.
Develop and ensure implementation of psychosocial activities that are responsive to the needs of refugee women, girls, men & boys.
Participate in maintaining and updating quality Gender Based Violence Information Management System (IMS) databases on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
● Minimum of a diploma in Sociology, Psychology and or Guiding & Counselling
Experience working with boys and girls including the younger she and he (ages 12 - 17)
● At least 2 years’ hands on experience psychosocial support-counseling-to survivors of SGBV and trauma
Must have in depth technical expertise in case management and psychosocial support to survivors of Sexual Gender Based Violence
Experience in providing trauma counseling
Experience in a refugee setting and knowledge of refugee issues
Excellent Analytical, Communication and Report writing skills; Excellent Negotiation and Conflict Resolution skills
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with beneficiaries, duty bearers and other stakeholders
Able to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality **
