African Prisons Project Tutor (Law) Jobs in Kenya


Responsibilities:

  • Teaching University of London (International Programme) LLB degree modules within 3 prisons in Kenya, working at all times, within the prison’s rules and our policies and procedures.
  • Proactively preparing and conducting scheduled assessment of the modules, he/she will be teaching.
  • Continuously updating students on the any recent developments in respect to the relevant modules.
  • Assist in carrying out new developments, such as those relating to the curriculum, models of delivery and partnership.
  • Support the Senior Tutor in coordinating activities, which support the recruitment and retention of students.
  • He/she is responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the selection and admissions process of students into the UOL programmes.
  • Make a contribution to the support and assessment of students, reflecting on the student development needs and ensuring we achieve the expected marks as per the set benchmark.

    Qualifications:

  • Holder of an LLB degree from the University of London (International Programme). Ideally a good Honours degree in English law with a minimum grade of 2:1.
  • Previous teaching experience and good knowledge of various models of teaching and learning.
  • 5 years or more experience of administrative or managerial responsibility in an academic environment.
  • Understanding or experience of the requirements of teaching and research in a prison or judiciary context.
  • Advanced oral and writing skills, and an ability to present information and arguments clearly; excellent interpersonal skills; IT skills appropriate to an office or NGO (field) environment.
  • Experience in dealing with Commissioners and an ability to work consultatively within democratic structures; sympathy with the aims, objectives
    and academic values at the highest levels having a commitment to the highest possible standards.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications and electronic procurement systems.

    Competencies:

  • Team player with high integrity, strong written and oral communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to think laterally and deliver high quality teaching with limited resources available within prisons.
  • The proven ability to take initiatives in developing relationships, initiatives and options for action that might benefit the charities academic aims
  • Have passion to assist when in need.
  • Be flexible for organizational need and understanding towards the organizational capacity and limitations of the NGO.
  • Resilient for achieving the designated goals.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment under minimal supervision
