African Economic Research Consortium Chief Communication Officer Jobs in Kenya
Job PurposeThe position takes a lead role in the development and implementation of the communication function and is responsible for designing, implementing, managing and directing internal as well as external communication
Communication, Marketing, Brand Management & Public RelationsDeveloping a brand and communication strategy for AERC that achieves broad brand awareness, acceptance and association of AERC among the various publics in order to guarantee its visibility at all the partner universities, including on their websites.
Leading the development of on-going relationships with key national and regional media outlets that result in an increased positive representation of AERC programmes, research outputs and events.
Engaging and building a robust network with mainstream media outlets as well as social media influencers with a view to involving them in AERC events to increase their reach, notch milestones and record achievements as well as research outputs impacting public policy.
Monitoring AERC’s media presence, and preparing quarterly reports on the effectiveness of the organization’s public outreach and media campaigns.
Information Management
Consulting with technical team leaders and subject-matter experts to create a common understanding of publications and related materials that need to be produced.
Maintaining currency on new developments in technical writing, editing and publishing, including technological enhancements that may affect the consortium.
Assisting in the preparation of material for technical seminars and various forums in collaboration with internal/ external stakeholders.
Overseeing the day-to-day running of the online library to ensure it serves the needs of AERC, its network and partner institutions. Overseeing the operation and performance of the outsourced publications function in terms of existing SLAs and contracts as well as the development, production and distribution of AERC corporate and promotional materials, including annual reports, brochures, and newsletters.
Overseeing the production of all communication material to ensure that it meets the highest standards and enhances the overall impact of the organization’s communication regionally and internationally.
Ensuring AERC knowledge resources are readily accessible on the web; overseeing the quality of the content published and maintained on the AERC website; facilitating web-based networking and supporting learning events, workshops and senior policy seminars.
Overseeing the development of AERC’s social media strategy and leading the development of a vibrant and sustainable social media environment to drive conversations on AERC programmes with students, donors, researchers and other key stakeholders.
Alumni Relations
Building and enhancing the AERC alumni network to drive the AERC agenda among its key stakeholders notably members, donors, governments, universities, and research institutes.
Resource Mobilization
Providing on-going support to the resource mobilization strategy via
provision of the required information and facilitating production of suitable and appropriate materials.
Secondary responsibilities
Undertaking any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Key Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations or relevant technical field
Demonstrable extensive experience in writing/editing and publishing in a professional environment with capacity to process complex technical subject matter.
Knowledge and experience in of the networked communication environment, including electronic publishing, web-based publishing and online engagement.
At least 10 years relevant work experience,with at least five years at management level.
Key Skills
University level proficiency in English use, together with, Communication, Marketing, Public Affairs or relevant technical field.
At least 5 years’ hands-on experience in, communications, public relations, marketing or related experience. Work experience within NGOs in communication roles a plus.
Excellent oral communication and presentation skills
Ability to speak, write and edit in French is a requirement
Strong technical editing skills in policy and research advocacy
Proven skills and track record in writing, designing and producing publications within schedule and budget. Knowledge of desktop publishing and website management.
Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
Proven track record in crisis communication as well as successfully dealing with the media and using social media to communicate about an organization
